Campus entrances are marked with bright yellow signs that read "WELCOME," but that sentiment is almost refuted by another line: "PARKING IS BY PERMIT ONLY." ECU is, however, primarily a pedestrian campus, and the Student Transit Authority is efficient enough to get students where they need to go. It is not really necessary for freshmen to even bring cars. The freshman lot is so far away from campus that freshmen who use Student Transit or meet upperclassmen with cars probably will not need to go to the freshman lot until they leave for break. During breaks, students can carpool with someone from their region by posting a card on the travel board in the basement of Mendenhall, or more efficiently, by posting on the Banner forums or on
Parking and Transportation Services is perhaps the least popular office at ECU, and their white vehicles with green police-style lights on top are annoying, if not terrifying. The no-nonsense officers are dreaded by anyone who has committed even the slightest parking infraction. Many students complain about ECU parking, but for those students who look online and make the effort to know which lot is which, which permits allow them to park where, and which permit they are eligible to buy, parking will never become a huge issue.
