Academics: I think ECU is greatly underrated. This school is filled with extremely hardworking, caring and intelligent professors. Some of my classes are only around 20 people which really provides personal attention. The workload, in my opinion, is a pretty good amount.

Campus Housing: I love living in the dorms. Even though I'm moving off-campus next year, living in the dorms was one of my favorite parts of this year. Everything is so close to you and you meet a LOT a great, nice people. West End is definitely the best neighborhood and I highly suggest choosing it.

Off-Campus Dining: If you've never been to supdogs, you've never lived.

Greek Life: Greek life is amazing here at ECU. For the most part, greeks don't look down on non-greeks and the houses for both fraternities and sororities are pretty nice.

Weather: it's usually always warm but when it rains, it pours. There have been a lot if tornado danger lately.

4 College Student

Transportation: the buses are always on time and stop everywhere on campus and the surrounding city.

Overall Experience: ECU was a lot of fun, but I probably would have picked a school that was fun, yet the students were also very into their school work. School work was secondary to partying at ECU to most students.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Everything off campus is chain-related or fast food, do not expect fresh/privately owned food places.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Academics are great for health profession majors and education. You will learn a great amount, but other people do not look at ECU as a great academic school unfortunately.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Almost everyone moves off campus after freshman year. There are plenty apartment complexes and there are houses in the grid, however that can be a little dangerous living in the grid.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Nightlife is awesome. There is always something to do. There are so many bars and the frats are so much fun, although they sometimes both get to the point that they are too packed.

5 College Sophomore

Computers: There are a lot of computer labs on campus. You have to pay for prints in the library, but in places like the white dorm on west end and some academic buildings you can print for free.

Campus Dining: Campus dining isn't too bad. There is a sandwich station in the dining hall that is good, along with other options on campus like chick-fil-a, a cafe food station, panda express, and more.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: ECU academics is okay. The school is known as a huge party school. You will learn a lot with the great curriculum, but the school is not known by others for its academics.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: They have a good nursing program, definitely not one of the best in the country like another post had said, but it is a good nursing program, especially out of the North Carolina public schools. It is very hard to get into, so shoot for all A's will taking prerequisites.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There are definitely more girls than guys. The girls are nice, but can be snobby. The guys are nice, but then again they are all college guys.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: ECU is diverse and accepting.

Greek Life: Greek life is a large part of ECU. If you are a guy, I recommend greek life as your only other option is to go downtown. If you are a girl, you can get into any frats without being in greek life, but you will miss out on socials with frats and sororities. If your not in greek life, get ready to be called a GDI all the time.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: It's your choice whether you want to drink or do drugs, but mostly everyone drinks.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: RA's are strict. You will get caught trying to smoke in the dorms, along with too much noise. There will be check ins from the RAs.

2 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: At night, never walk anywhere alone. There is a lot of crime, mostly that of people who walk alone and get jumped off campus. The grid and downtown are the most dangerous to walk alone at night.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: The weather is awesome. There is a short winter. When it is sunny, it is beautiful out, however when it rains, it pours. Usually the rain won't last too long.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: During the day, the campus shuttle is easy to use but only really needed if you live on college hill or are going to college hill. At night, there are campus buses that run until 2am to apartment complexes, but otherwise everything else is either in walking distance or frats have sober drivers that can give anyone a ride if you know someone in the frat.

1 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Unless you are lucky and have a cool RA, they are very strict with drinking, drugs and noise, but even with a cool RA it is difficult. If the dorm gets a little too noisy, there will be a visit from the RA.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Football season is the best time of the year. Greenville nearly shuts down to tailgate and go to each game.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
