Health & Safety: East Carolina Univerist is a safe campus. On campus there are several blue light telephones that can be used in case of an emergency. Also ECU provides "safe ride" which is a bus ride to and from campus at night. Police are always protrolling the campus and making sure things are okay. When I'm on campus i alwasy feel 100% safe.

Facilities: The social scence at East Carolina is one of a kind! There is never a boring night out on the town! Everybody gets along great with other. There are numerous amounts of academic programs to get involved in. All the facilities on campus are top of the line! Campus life always provides activites for students.

Transportation: There are many transportations at East Carolina University. The best option is the buses that the school provides. It takes students to and from class from their apartments, dining halls, campus, dorms, and the the recreation center.

Computers: There is no need to take your personal computer to class. East Carolina has an excellent source of computers and internet usage. The wireless internet connection is highspeed. All the computers in the labs are all brand new apple computers. The labs all have wireless printers.

Facilities: Not Much – They don't really have much no other school also wouldn't have. A career center, clubs, on-campus jobs, and varsity sports. It's pretty much what any college student would expect so everything is pretty solid.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Pretty Typical – They don't search your rooms which give you freedom. They will check you if you act suspicious however. The police are pretty reasonable about how to arrest people and wouldn't talk to somebody unless they had a reason to appear to be up to no good.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Very Nice – Different kinds of restaurants and buffets that have all sorts of deals for people of all backgrounds and financial needs. My favorite being Cookout which is fast, cheap, and have a distinct North Carolina style of cooking food.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Zero Tolerance for Drugs – ECU has zero tolernce for drugs. Alcohol is more prevelant than anything but as far as drugs, smoking is more popular activity as well.

Greek Life: Greek life is very BIG at ECU. They contrbute alot to the activites and student involvement that goes on at school. Even though I am not partcipating in Greek Life yet, it looks awesome. There are so many to chose from, it just depends on you & your grades.

Athletics: Pirate Football – All of eastern North Carolina gets excited during football season at ECU. Alumni alre always around, the sea of students decked out in purple and gold, and the overall atmosphere of the games is enough to give anybody some school spirit.

Diversity: What a Party School – When some people think about ECU, "party school" automatically comes to mind. While the nightlife and party scene for ECU stuents has been recognized by Playboy and other "distinguished" lists, some students, like myself, attend ECU because of the academic reputation.

Campus Housing: Campus Living Is the Best – I lived on campus my freshman year and will be returning this year to the same dorm. It was so convenient to simply fall out of bed and go to class, which was usually in a very close location to my dorm. The dining halls are usually full of good food and the activities on campus are always varied and fun. The cost is expensive but in the long run probably worth it.

Academics: Interesting Courses and Helpful Professors – The courses at East Carolina University are always very interesting and there is always a variety of subjects that you can take. There are also usually several different sections of it that you can work into any schedule. My workload was not too heavy and it allowed me to participate in other activities outside of academics such as those through my Teaching Fellow's Scholarship.

Computers: Labs Are Crowded but Helpful – The computer labs at East Carolina University are large and very easy to get to, however it seems like there are always quite a few people in them doing unnecessary things. The wireless access is very unreliable in the dorms, but is perfect around campus. Printing is free and very accessible but it is in the same labs that are so crowded. I have used the printing a lot over the past year.

Off-Campus Dining: Other Places – There is more to eat in Greenville and way better stuff for the dining hall. The thing is i have already paid for all my meals and need to use them.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: I hated eating at the dining hall because they cooked the same thing everyday and it all started tasting the same at the end.

Local Atmosphere: A Crowded Town – Greenville has probably the biggest crowd of people i have ever been around. The town it is in is a ran down town and mostly black people live their. Also in Pitt county there is Pitt community college and J.H Rose high school. We are known as a big "party school" but it is what you make it.

Overall Experience: East Carlina university is an execellent school for me. As an student I have learn alot. I also swim for the school which sometime is very hard trying to manager going to school and keeping up my grades which I had a gpa of 3.79 as of today and playing a sport at college. I first fell in love with this school first time I seen it, and I am so glad I follow my heart and not my parents who wanted me to stay in Maryland.

3 College Junior

Weather: Hot and Humid – The weather in North Carolina is very hot and humid in the fall and spring and in the winter it isn't to bad.

4 College Junior

Parking: Parking on the campus is no problem at all. The parking is in the middle of the campus, so you have plenty off space and alking time to get to class.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: Safety on Campus – The campus is totally safe. Everything is located close to each other. The parking lots are nearby the buildings. The police offers and exceptional service.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: So Many Options! There are so many different places for students to live off-campus! Everyone can be accommodated whether it be with price, location, or even just the type of living spaces. There are so many great places to choose from close to campus and even ones for people who want to live farther from school. There even is an apartment building on campus that isn't part of school housing!

5 College Junior

Transportation: I Love the public transportation. Buses are constantly running on campus, off campus, & out to shopping places.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Student Rec Center – I enjoy working out at the student recreation center. Very clean & there are many different activities you can do.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greeks DO Give Back to the Community – The greeks really work hard to get their names out in the community by providing fundraisers and other community service events. Everywhere you go, you will see a fraternity or sorority promoting something. Plus, they throw really fun parties!

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
