Academics: The professors at East Carolina University are extremely competent, dedicated, and hard-working. They try to use an evidence-based curriculum that is back not only by their degree, but by experimental results. However, the professors in the science department may be somewhat of an exception. Although they are dedicated and use an evidence-based course curriculum, they have trouble attempting to simplify their course material to the general, non-science, student.

Transportation: Takes a Little Getting Used to. you can use your own car at any time but during the week it has to be parked in a certain parking lot, which they give you a sticker to stick in your window for. if you have a car, skateboard, or bike, it has to be registered. the bus line that travels all over campus is free

Computers: Not a Problem – These computers at the university are pretty decent and they are regularly updated and maintained.

Drug Safety: Drugs Not an Issue – Drugs are not really big, although it depends on who you hang out with. If people are doing drugs, they're usually just smoking. Drinking is a much more popular activity.

Off-Campus Dining: Downtown Dining – There is a great variety of places to eat in downtown Greenville and its very close to campus.

3 College Junior

Diversity: Very Diverse – There are people from all over the country who attend ECU.

Campus Housing: Apartments Are the Way to Go – On campus living is convenient for those who aren't used to living on a college campus. However, off campus apartments offer students their own room and are actually very much more affordable than staying on campus.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Great Care – ECU takes great measures ensure their students safety. On the weekend nights there is 'round the clock' security to make sure no one underage is getting into clubs/bars and drinking. And for those who do get a little wild, dorms and apartments have private shuttles to take students back to their rooms.

Nightlife: One of a Kind Experience – I have partied at other schools and I have not found a school with a downtown area like Greenville, NC. That is the hot spot at night, everyone goes downtown and it is a great time no matter what day of the week it is

Athletics: Dont Let C-USA Fool You – Varsity Sports At ECU are taken very seriously. Home games are a big deal in greenville. Dont let the fact that ECU is part of aa non-BCS conference fool you, the fans still get really into the Pirates.

Academics: A Look Into Construction Management – The Construction Management Department is phenomenal. The Labs coordinated with the classes give the student great hands on experience. The facilities are wonderful, there are even talks that the University will purchase land near campus to build an area for students to use heavy equipment to gain experience before graduating and entering the labor force.

Weather: it snowed maybe twice last year, and i think classes got shut down for those days, which was awesome. warms up around march, doesn't get too cold till nov. pretty good weather.

Off-Campus Housing: Off Campus Livng – I think ecu has over 20 something different apartment complexes? not sure, some are huge like north campus crossing and the landing. where others are smaller like first street place. many apartment complexes offer busses that go to and from the school during class and nightlife hours. cheap, and effective.

Campus Dining: Campus dining is excellent. One of our alumni went on to own his own restaurant chain and the dining halls are themed around it. At each dining hall location there is always pizza, pasta, salad bar, soups, desert, home cooked southern meals, sandwich bar, traditional american food and so much more. there are also several on campus places to eat like einstein brothers bagles, sbarro, chilis, burger factory, chick fila, reed st bakery, subways, blimpie, as well as college hill grill, java cities, starbucks, senior peedees, and a few more i'm forgetting.

Local Atmosphere: Greenville is a college town if i've ever seen one. Hell even the gas stations are purple and gold. Right next to campus is downtown with all the clubs and bars. All across Greenville there are themed shops towards the ecu pirates.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: Pirate Atheletics – Pirate pride is huge in Greenville, the whole town gets behind the sports. You can tell it is definitely a college town. Pirate football is HUGE. there is tailgating for miles. Tailgates are full of free food and drinks, as well as many games you can play. Pirate basketball is on the rise, and Baseball games are extremely fun.

Guys & Girls: Most people at ecu dress fairly nice, when I say most I mean about half. everybody has their own style, i'd say ECU girls are extremely hot though.

Campus Housing: Living on Campus – Living on campus is great, you are close to downtown, close to your classes. The dining halls are right next to where you live. there is always something to do on campus ranging from concerts to laser tag to movies. the only bad part about living on campus is sharing a room. everything else is thoroughly enjoyable no matter where you live.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: As ECU is a fairly large college, approximately 28,000 students, there is something for everyone when it comes to religion/sexual orientation, political beliefs etc. All ethnicities are equally and fairly treated.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing @ ECU is abundant. The townhouse communities are constructed with the college student in mind. Most communities have washer/dryers in units, private bath for each bedroom and enormous swimming pools as well as gym facilities. Anyone looking for off campus housin has a large selection of single family homes to townhouses to choose from.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: All facilities at ECU are great from the football and baseball fields to the gyms and food services. Lots of food service choices. Library is state of the art.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: There is always something going to keep students busy. There is something for everybody. I hear that there alot of student parties in the area. However, I haven't personally been to any.

Overall Experience: I have only been at ECU for two semesters. I love this college! I wish that I would have came here right after high school. I have just had to manage my social life apart from my academics. It is a wonderful college and I would suggest ECU for anyone that wants to pursue an education and have a good time while doing so.

Parking: East Carolina Univeristy offers a lot of parking. There are a lot of parking spaces at the stadium and there are buses that run every 10 minutes from the stadium to campus. Campus parking permits are cheap compared to other colleges. Also, the cost of tickets are extremely low. There really isn't a need for a car on campus becasue the building are all close together and the buses will take you where you need to go.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
