Diversity: Diversity isn't all that great at ECU. There are people of all races and elasticities, but the majority of people are white. Still, at the same time the campus seems very open and accepting of everybody regardless of race or ethnicity.

Scholarships: Not Enough – I do not want to do loans, so getting financial aid has proven difficult. Scholarships aren't advertised, so you need to do your own research.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Sociology Major – I haven't been in the program for very long, so I can't give it top marks just yet. The department is not in a good location on campus. The teachers are very interesting and helpful. I think it is a pretty good program. The workload is not terrible.

Scholarships: Process Has Been Great – I have received a fair amount of financial aid and the process has always gone smoothly. Keep your GPA up and it helps a lot with the scholarships awards.

Weather: Floods a Lot – It rains a lot here. The dorms will get flooded quickly if you are on the bottom. It's not fun having to get to class in the rain when your dorm is a far from class.

Guys & Girls: Guys Are Cute – There are all sort of guys at ECU: smart, funny, party goers and most of all cute. The girls are easygoing, into greek life, and dresses very casual(pajamas for class). There is a great mixture of different cultures.

Computers: There are plenty of computers and computer laboratories on campus. They are a pretty good size and fast when it comes to working on them. Each computer lab has about 20 t0 50 computers and 2 to 3 printers. Every time you use a computer, you have to login and input a username and a password for security purposes. I am very happy with the whole computer system at ECU.

Scholarships: As a high school senior (last year), I received a lot of help from my counselors. They were the ones who told me how to apply, where to apply, who to talk to, etc, regarding scholarship money. If it weren't for them I would of not gotten as much money as I did. This year, however, I have nobody to help me out with this. Therefore, my dad and I are trying to find scholarships anywhere on the internet. Hopefully our efforts will be awarded.

Greek Life: There is a large variety of sororities and fraternities at ECU. There are always parties or other events going on in and out of Greek Life houses. Personally, I would not like to be involved in a sorority because I think I might not be able to manage both greek life and student life at the same time, but most students at ECU love it.

Health & Safety: Personally, I really like the ECU campus because it is not too big but not too small either. This makes getting to class way easier and quicker. ECU is right by downtown Greenville and most people believe that is not safe. There is a very high crime rate in downtown Greenville, which makes ECU not too safe.

Overall Experience: Great School – Had a couple of issues being in the military but once I found the right people to talk to everything worked out great. Enjoying my classes and look forward to graduating.

Off-Campus Dining: I visited a sandwich shop right outside of campus a couple of months ago and it was awesome...I can't remember the name. It was ECU themed and in a strip mall near a Stein Mart. The prices were solid, gave a student/military discount FOOD WAS GREAT!

Parking: Pretty Good – Parking is very expensive. We have different parking lots, the closer you get the more money you have to put in. If you are running late to class, dont have a pass, and decide to park in an area in which you need a pass to park you more than likely to get a ticket but its not too bad.

2 College Freshman

Nightlife: Ummm Sure Its Fun When Your Drunk – Nightlife is something that if you never experienced it you didn't miss out. People get so wasted they cant even walk down the street not to mention that its in the ghetto.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Hit or Miss – East Carolina University has a great sports program, not to mention notable too. We have a great football team but some games our players decided not to really play so we lose. But the fan support is off the chart. You get chills from standing in the stadium listening to people go wild when we make a touch down!

1 College Freshman

Facilities: Social scene is all partying. You see it in the dorms and outside the dorms. Have a great sports complex, with outdoor and indoor pool. Has a bowling alley, billiards and theatre all on campus. Pretty preppy and wild school.

5 College Freshman

Transportation: The buses take you around campus and also to the mall,wal-mart,grocery store, and shopping centers. Also when the buses are not in service you can call "Safe-Ride" and they will pick you up or take you anywhere you need to go. All transportation is free.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Good Variety – Dining halls, burger place, and getting a Chili's soon.Variety and good hours. You can also use pirate bucks for items that are not in the meal plan.

3 College Freshman

Parking: Far Off Campus – Its a lot of parking spaces but they are far from campus

1 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Attendance sucks because they drop letter grades by how many days you miss, what if its important?

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Their food is wonderful, Long Lines but its wonderful

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: If you don't love ECU, it's because you're not involved!
However, if you party too much, that could be a problem.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Rec Center – The student rec center is top notch. The only problem is that the racquetball courts are usually full. Other than that, its simply wonderful.

5 College Senior

Weather: The weather is usually great- hardly ever snows during the winter; when it does, they are quite prompt at canceling classes.

5 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Local Attitude Toward Students – Greenville is extremely proud of its East Carolina students. To the point where they are willing to paint several of their establishments purple and gold- the school colors.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
