Diversity: The campus has people from all kinds of backgrounds. There contain alot of people from the south, and towns around greenville which tend to be sort of "redneck".

Majors: Research Assistant – I have had an enlightening and wonderful experience as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. The faculty is very supportive of all students and is focused on student success.

Scholarships: Very Helpful Staff – I have had a wonderful experience with the student aid department and process.

Off-Campus Housing: Lots of Options for Students – I received help in finding a place for my family to live through the university. We have lived happily in the area for the past 2 years.

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been great! ECU may be known as a party school, but it's only what you make of it. If you devote your time to studying hard, then your college will be just that! If you devote your time to partying and all of that good stuff, your experience will be just that! I experienced both and I'm proud to say that I have LOVED my experience here and I AM going to miss it, but there's a time for fun and games and there's a time to step up to the plate and live this thing they call life.

Parking: The cost of permits is ridiculous! A student should not have to pay as much as we do for parking passes, because we are STUDENTS! Ticketing and fines are ridiculous. It's like they're out there watching and waiting for people to park so that they can go check to see if your car has a sticker or not. You can go into a place for 5 minutes, come back out and have a ticket on your car. The availability of parking spaces doesn't amount to nothing. They give out more parking passes than there are parking spaces around campus. Something needs to be done about the parking. You hae to get to campus by 8 a.m. to be able to get the last couple of parking spaces that will be left. They should make parking decks around campus and the passes should not be $190 for a yearly pass. It's ridiculous!

Computers: The computer labs that I use at East Carolina niversity are the best! Printing is free! The newtwork reliability and speed is good! There is wireless access 24/7, you can even get it in the parking lots and on the buses through your phone! The wireless network action is the best I've ever know of. I'm not really a libraryor computer lab person but when I do go to the library and computer lab on the health sciences campus I can go in, get what I need to get done and be on my way. The only slight problem is that the private rooms for studying get taken by 6 p.m., so early arrival is a must, especially during exam time. But overall, the computers are great!

Off-Campus Dining: Not Many Choices. There are not many choices around ECU that offer discounts to students, nor is there much variety. The places are generally the same 'bar & grill' type places which serve burgers and fries. The prices are generally the same as well, being anywhere from 5 to 7 dollars.

Diversity: Many Different Ethnicities. There are many different ethnicities at East Carolina, including people from all around the world. I find that by opening up and having a huge diversity of students, it allows students to be more open and modest about other types of people, and learn their walk of life. On the other hand, we are a majority white school, which is the reason for the grade of B.

Nightlife: Go Out – Night life is great there is plenty to do between downtown and hanging out with friends which makes ECU an exciting place on weekends and most other times.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Apartments Are Reasonable – The apartments that offer athletic and leisure facilities are great. they come fully furnished and have individual bathrooms for each room as well as a fully equiped kitchen and internet. they also provide transportation to and from campus.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: A Welcoming College Town – East Carolina University has a welcoming campus that has everything from 27 food places to bowling and movies as well as a lot of activities on campus. There is much to do off campus as well which makes it a fun college town.

Overall Experience: My College Time – So far, college has taught me the value of time management. Ive had so much reading, but it helps. I meet people here and there, but some people are just not up to conversating.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: THE BIGGIES – Campus really doesnt seem to have rules. If you go to class, that's on you, no professor is going to chase you down. Police really arent visible on campus, until you get out to the streets. Strictness is more like responsibilities on this campus.

Nightlife: A New "G-Vegas"? As with any university there is stress during the day, but then comes the nightlife to life! Greenville isn't necessarily equipped with the best clubs, but generally the guards will allow you to get in. Skipping stores, cliubs, bars, and dorm parties can get really fun, but even though ECU was labeled nationally as a "party-school", truth is, there are hard workers here!

Local Atmosphere: About the Town – there's really not a lot to do in greenville for me mainly because i have been here all my life. Its pretty safe around the area though.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Excellent College Town – Although Greenville, NC is not a very large city, there are plenty of great restaurants, stores and cultural events. The town is completely built around ECU... you never forget that you're in Pirate Nation because purple and gold are everywhere! That is one thing I really love about the local atmosphere at ECU, the whole town fully supports the students and the university with pride.

Majors: The HIM Program – Well it's not so tough, the professor are very helpful and the courseload isn't bad at all. There's a more personal interest in helping the student and the material isn't difficult.

3 College Senior

Academics: My major is nice, the class sizes are small and the courses are somewhat relevant and interesting. as with all degree progams, your mileage may vary. Workload isn't crazy, and the job opportunities should be decent.

3 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: There isn't that much to do in Greenville, the downtown scene and apartment complexes hold events regularly though. Greenville is small, but not too small and the biggest major city (Raleigh) is about an hour away.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Good Luck Finding a Spot! Off-campus housing is readily available to anyone who wishes to live near campus but also independently. The only issue is that parking can be a hassle. If you do manage to snag a space, make sure you keep up to date with your meter if there is one; the police love to give tickets.

Athletics: Everyone Is Involved – East Carolina University is one of the most football spirited schools that I have been to! Tailgating lasts from in the morning (with huge preparation) to celebrating after the game is over. Parents, alumni, and fan bases from all around come out on game days to support all teams of ECU. The football players get a ton of resources from the school to train and perform at their best!

Local Atmosphere: Stay Close to Campus – East Carolina University lies in between Fifth Street and Tenth Street. Close to that are apartment complexes and other student living. The downtown area includes bars and club and is a great place to party. Beyond that, the town opens up to regular people who live there full time with jobs. If out at night, I would advise avoiding those areas.

4 College Junior

Academics: Easy to Stay on Track – I came to East Carolina University for the Nursing program. Whenever I need help, whether it is with registration or general question, it is always easy and convenient to meet with my advisor. Professors are nice, the campus is beautiful and students are always involved in school activities. The mix makes for a great learning environment.

Overall Experience: Love This School – Overall, I love East Carolina. I have so much Pirate Pride, which surprised me, because in high school I wasn't one for school spirit. I have such a diverse group of friends, which is awesome, and I also have an amazing apartment with amazing roommates to look fore ward to. I got involved in a club that really hit home for me and I totally belong there. And lastly, the fun at this school is great.. whether parties at night at houses and apartments or parties during the day at the apt complex pools, you'll never have nothing to do.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
