4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Night Life – East Carolina has a great night life. That is where most of the socializing occurs.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Rain, Rain, Go Away – Overall the weather is not too bad. It rains a lot though.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I am not very please with my dorm because it looks very old, but there are better residence halls if your willing to pay a little more

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: Go to Downtown at Least Once – if you arnt 21, the night scene isnt the best, but there are still some fun clubs if you are

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Girls Are Not to Shabby – Here, you see the lowest of the low, and the best of the best. But when its good, its really good!

4 College Freshman

Computers: Not to Bad – Everything is easily accessible, and works quite well.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: All About Greenville – Greenville is not a huge town, but it definitely makes the students feel at home. Most businesses and companies always support the ECU teams and show the team spirit by hanging signs and representing the team colors. For example, very close to campus there is a BB&T and the entire building is painted purple and and gold just to show they support the school. There are a few attractions such as a bowling alley, mall and movie theater. It is about an hour and a half from Raleigh where there is NC State University and many other smaller colleges that the students that go to ECU are friends with.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Pretty Good. The campus rules are fair, as long as you don't do anything crazy, you shouldn't have any problems. Punishments are in accordance with the law, and underage drinking is a big no-no.

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Very Nice – There is a nice variety of guy and girls on campus. Most of the girls are friendly, and make you feel at home. I've made friends with lots of girls and they are all special.

2 College Freshman

Weather: When is rains our campus floods very easily and its hard to get to class with out getting soaked.

1 College Freshman

Parking: Parking around campus is awful, there's hardly anywhere you can park. If you do not park in your permitted area you will get a ticket almost always.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The off campus housing has many pros to it, its close to campus and the school buses run by many of the off campus housing which is good for students who dont have cars or are trying to save gas. I believe some of the cons are some places are expensive and its not as close to campus as on-campus housing is.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Sports Rule but Are Not Great. ECU has a lot of school spirit for their sports programs but do not have very good teams. The fans always show up but usually we lose in sports. The athletic facilities are great.

2 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Ok but Only So You Dont Starve – The eating places are good around campus. The food generally gets old but it satisfies your hunger. The food gets the job done.

4 College Freshman

Computers: The computers are very reliable and convenient for students. We have computer labs everywhere that stay open late at night and printing is free.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: busses are available and you can pretty much alway find someone with a car

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Close to Campus – Excluding some apartments such as copper beach, north campus crossing, there are many apartments that are close and many houses that are available

5 College Freshman

Facilities: I feel that ECU has something for everyone. Our academic programs are amazing and our professors are really helpful. Even though ECU is a big school you never feel like a number, you are an individual. I love the campus look and feel, it is beautiful. The student population is diverse which makes campus great!

Nightlife: If you like to party there are opportunities to do so in Greenville. Downtown is just a walk away and is full of excitement on the weekends. There are transportations services available to help you get back home.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Pirate Nation Pride – If you want to see real school spirit and pride and a school that loves their athletic teams and supports them East Carolina is the school! You can tell that the students love their school by just talking on campus. Randomly someone will yell out "PURPLE" and you will hear the response "GOLD"! The excitement that is in Dowdy-Fickeln stadium is like no other. The coaches, the teams, and the students are all one family showing off our pirate pride!

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Getting Tougher – ECU is getting stricter admissions requirements and requirements for staying. Teachers vary on toughness, but there is definitely a way to balance getting good grades and having fun.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Pretty Average – I would say the drug and alcohol usage is the same as every college. There are hardly ever instances of visible underage use and it is forbidden to use either in the dorms. The ECU police are very serious about their policies and so are the Greenville police.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Everyone Bleeds Purple and Gold! At ECU, there is an incredible amount of school spirit and you know everyday going to class that you've entered Pirate Nation. Our football team has been better in the last few years than it is now and basketball isn't really our sport, but we have an amazing baseball, women's basketball, and soccer team. No matter how one of our ECU teams are playing, however, we always have Pirate Pride.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Plenty of Options – The food at the dining halls are good. Sometimes I just don't have time to make it there to eat. I like that ECU has a variety of food options on campus if I get tired of eating at the dining hall or if it is closed.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: ecu has a great med school as well as new dental school.

Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
