4 College Freshman

Diversity: This place is very diverse student and teacher wise, but sometimes its hard to do well in a class when you have a foreign teacher that cannot speak english well.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I am an out of state student, and I pay a lot of money each semester to come here. This school is very cheap, you have to provide your own test bubble sheets and print out almost all your homework/syllabuses for each class, not to mention pay to print off paper as well.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: As a freshmen I do not have a car so going out to lunch or dinner somewhere with friends is very hard. Downtown Greenville has some good options and its in walking distance since my dorm is right next to downtown. My favorite restaurant is Armadillo Grill, cheap and great!

4 College Freshman

Diversity: There is a good amount of diversity and acceptance on campus, as well as various groups, activities, clubs, etc. related to various groups.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: The food in the dining halls are alright, but seem repetitive after you have ate there for a while.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: I love the facilities. They are well organized and very useful. The gym has many different activities you can participate in. The library has many resources that can help you with school work.

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Alcohol Is More Famous – ECU has a big reputation for being a party school. It is such a party school that the city police have to block cars from going down the streets where the clubs are during the weekend. Anybody can get access to alcohol.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: All About Football – School spirit is very very high. When most people say ECU they think of football. Volleyball goes on about the same time but nobody really hears about that.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Pretty Good City – Greenville is a pretty decent place to live there is always something to do and plenty of places to shop at the only problem is there is a lot of crime downtown and some students have been killed or shot at apartment complexes. ECU campus police thought are very good at protecting students on campus. Recently there was a lock down because someone "had a gun" but it turned out to be an umbrella. The campus police and city police did everything to look for the "gun" and checked every building before removing the lock down.

Transportation: ECU has buses that takes students across campus.
It's a pain waiting on a bus when you only have 10 minutes between classes

1 College Freshman

Parking: I am a freshman -so I had to get a parking pass for D Lot.
I have to take the ECU bus from my dorm to get to D parking Lot which is near the baseball field - and not a safe place on campus.

I usually sit in my car until I see the bus coming to avoid getting robbed at this parking lot.

Guys & Girls: Guy to girl ratio at ECU is 3:1
I like ECU because its a diverse school. Most students come from middle class incomes - they dress good, have social skills and appear to be going somewhere in life.
For the most part, I think students have fun at ECU - but they have an ultimate goal which is getting a good job after graduation.

4 Recent Alumnus

Transportation: There is between campus transportation but there are limited hours. There are weekend after hours transportation to get students home safely after a night in town.

3 Recent Alumnus

Guys & Girls: Student Diversity – There are many different cultures, beliefs, and social classes on campus.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academics: Doctoral Studies – The faculty and staff are very supportive. The curriculum and laboratory facilities are established.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Pirate Football – I strongly believe that our Student Pirate Club makes ECU the unique school that it is today. Our Student Pirate Club is the largest student organization and consists of pirate fans and students who go to all the football and basketball games!

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Buses Provide the Best Way to Get Around – The buses at ECU are the best transporation system to take if you need to get anywhere. The buses will take you to class, to town, and pick you up from downtown on the weekends!

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: The ECU football team is the reason that students of East Carolina Univeristy or very close. During the fall season, every Saturday the student body gets together and tailgates at the bottom of College Hill for a few hours then walks up the hill to Dowdy Ficklen Stadium. Here we find many of our friends and people we have never met but may talk to, and some that we will never met all united as one! The student body of ECU loves getting together to cheer on their fellow ECU football players, who always put on a good show for us!

5 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Labeled number 5 party school in 2011 in the country, ECU is hands down intense! Some of the best social life anyone could ask for out of college! From the pools to the recreational areas to the downtown night life. This place is always going and there is lots of fun to be had in this town!

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: I am a huge fan of food and ECU has it right on point! After serving four years in the Marine Corps and eating that nasty food its nice to finally come to college and be fed real food! Im also a big buffet style enthusiast and would rather prefer going to one of the dining halls compared to any out on town buffet style restaurant. Also for the price you get a multitude of choices to attend to everyones likings without failing in quality.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Honestly ECU is a beautiful campus and has lots of wonderful things to offer as well as great sights. Most of the buildings are in excellent shape and look fairly modern, however there are a few older buildings that are still in use. These older buildings have been renovated and are now up to par as far as the classroom lay outs. As for the outdoor sights, ECU is through the roof with its amazing sculptures and building structures. They even have an amazing waterfall in the middle of campus near student admissions which tends to be a great hangout and or study area for peace and tranquility. All in all its a great place but nothing is ever perfect in this world so ECU gets an A-.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Alcohol is extremely prevelant on campus, you are basically guaranteed to see it everywhere you go. Drugs such as Aderoll and Vyvance are used around exam times to help students cram. There have been reported cases of people claiming to be victims of the date rape drug and then sexually assaulted while being incapacitated. However, it is easy to stay away from all this.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Every student should live in the dorms at one time or another. I learned a lot about myself and how to handle the idiosyncrycies of others. However, it by far not the cleanest or happiest of places to be. It can get rough, and it will, but it is a necessary part of life to learn to deal with tough situations and overcome them.

2 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Crime in and Around Campus – There are muggings, both armed and unarmed, rapings and drunks all over the campus on the weekends. However, Monday through Friday campus is relatively quiet and reasonably safe. The police aren't much help though, they really make it a priority to issue as many tickets as possible, both drinking and parking. They're more of a nusance than anything productive.

College Junior

Drug Safety: Too Much Drinking – I don't do drugs and only use alcohol seldom. So I am not into the partying community or drug scene.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
