5 College Freshman

Nightlife: Downtown Greenville is always packed Thursday through Saturday night. The clubs are always doing specials and hosting raves that attract a lot of attention. Their are also always parties guaranteed every night at the neighboring apartment complexes for student living. Their is never a dull night in Greenville.

5 College Junior

Weather: the weather is really good down here. You can tell when the seasons change but it never gets too cold or too hot.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Ghetto Vegas – the town is a decent size but there's definitely a lot to do at night. The bars and clubs downtown are always busy especially thursday through Saturday. It's definitely worth checking out.

3 College Junior

Facilities: The facilities are great at ECU. The most popular ones include the Student Recreation Center on West End and Mendenhall student center. The rec center is where a lot of the intramural teams play and a lot of students go work out. They have outdoor and indoor pools. Mendenhall student center has a bowling alley, game room, a computer lab, and a movie theater.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Process Is Average – When I was looking for scholarships, you have to go online and look at them. The financial aid office does not have a lot of information on scholarships but are useful with loans and other means with paying for schools.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: Many things to do at night, such as parties around campus or going downtown.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Most of the students at East Carolina are typically southern, and dress preppy. However, there are other social groups that are on campus, preppy is not the only social status here. Everyone here is friendly and outgoing.

3 College Freshman

Weather: It rains frequently. During the summers it is hot and humid with no wind, and the winters are cold but not unbearable.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: There are many buses that go from the popular apartment complexes to campus. That is a plus if you live in those apartments. If not, a C pass is bought that ranges around $120. They run every 5-10 minutes, which is convenient. If you are a freshman, you get your own parking lot, the worst one.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drug Scene – Depending on who you are around, drugs do not seem to be a problem. Drinking is a big thing at East Carolina, but not so much past that. East Carolina is a school full of drinkers.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: East Carolina University is known as one of the top party schools in the country. Downtown Greenville is known for its outrageous club scene and its numerous outcome of students that attend these bars Tuesday through Saturday nights. Many of the top student housing have late night buses to and from downtown to the apartment. If you are under 21, alcohol law enforcement is terrible and tend to seek out underage drinkers.

3 College Junior

Parking: There are plenty of spaces to park at and usually an available spot during the busy hours of the day. The only nightmare is the cost of permits and tickets if one decides to park without a permit. Luckily students can take the campus bus around.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: This school is known as the party school of the state and mainly because of a active nightlife scene and lack of rules to prevent students from overindulging of "life". However, ECU does have a good policy within the school of people drinking in dorms or near the campus.

4 College Junior

Athletics: East Carolina is known for it's athletic teams. Most important of all it's football team; it's what gives our school it's vibrant school spirit and pride.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: Easy as 1-2-3 – ECU's financial office provides you with any assistance needed in applying for financial aid. You can accumulate the paperwork, at the office located in the middle of campus(very easy to find) or through the online website. On the website everything is very organized and a person can find almost every type of financial application available.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: Jobs on Campus – ECU offers students jobs on campus, making job search less difficult. Student can drive the transportation buses(after achieving licenses), work as tutors, guides, teacher assistants, and many other opportunities. Students are more likely to work, if their job is located on campus, withing walking distance or bus routes, because some students do not bring their cars. Therefore, ECU gives the perfect set up by going to class, living, and working all in the same place!

4 College Freshman

Academics: Helping Students Work at Full Potential – Academics are very important at ECU. Advisers and professors are very helpful with anything a student needs help with. Tutors are available all times throughout the day, to fit anyone's schedule. ECU also has a writing studio, that assists students with writing papers for class. ECU's staff and tutors want to make sure every student is succeeding to their fullest potential.

2 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I called the financial aid office and was only told to fill out the FAFSA.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Plenty of Apartments! There are a lot of options for student apartments near by that are reasonably priced! The only down side is that they tend to be a little loud due to only housing college students.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Garrett Hall Is Great! Garrett Hall is not one of the newer dorms, but it has sinks in the room which is really nice! The rooms are also not as small as some of the others on campus. The rec center is near by, and absolutely amazing! It is only improved by having a smoothie bar and hosting great events!

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Medical Programs – I picked East Carolina because they have so many different kinds of health care majors. I knew it was the field I want to enter, but I was not sure at first what I want to do.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: There are many Greek housing around campus. They seem to be very together and enthusiastic about people joining their group.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Campus Activities – There are always campus activities on campus. I have attended many of the activities including the "midnight madness", "polar plunge", "cultural week", and many more. I love how they always gives aways free food and prizes on campus. It gives me lots of opportunities to hangout with my friends.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There is always something to do, especially club wise. Campus usually has activities also. Just bring a car.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: The parking at school isn't so bad. It depends on where you are living on campus. If you are a freshman, life sucks.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
