2 College Freshman

Parking: Orientation parking the awful and unless you get there early you will have a difficult time moving in and out.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drinking and Drugs – At any college there is going to be a certain amount of drinking and drug usage but I feel that while ECU does have a lot of people that drink, the drug scene isn't that widespread.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Check Out Sup Dogs – Restaurants are very nice in the city. All visitors should check out the amazing Sup Dogs right near campus. The special sauce is amazing.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Been a Great Experience – I have such a great time at East Carolina University. The professors are very accessible, the classes are a good size, and I have made many good friends.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Vast Possible Majors – There are many different classes you can take to discover what major would be a good fit for you.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Great Learning Environment. East Carolina is a big school, but you can still have quality time with professors.

Campus Dining: Very Good – Lots of quality options, dining halls are good, also chili's, subway, and chick-fil-a on campus.

Campus Housing: Dorms are pretty well maintained, and campus dining options are great. Much better than I've heard from friends at other schools.

5 College Junior

Diversity: There are many different types of people and everyone is very accepting.

3 College Junior

Athletics: The school has a enormous student fan section for all sports played. The teams are usually average though.

4 College Junior

Academics: Geology Major – The program is very great thanks to the great professors but the facilities could be improved.

4 College Junior

Academics: The geology department has very knowledgeable staff.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Freshman dorm halls are kind of dirty and need renovation, especially on College Hill. Upperclassmen are given several options for the newer dorms.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Relatively safe. Safe Ride isn't as "safe" as it is made out to be. Love the campus, absolutely beautiful.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls on campus are very diverse. East Carolina has a girl to guy ratio of 3-1 i belive but I could be wrong about that number. East Carolina also had been voted as one of the universities with the hottest girls in the nation i can see that. You will typically find social groups such as the preppy kids, greek kids, Skater boys, and jocks. As far as guys are concerned, there are a lot of girls on campus and i believe there is someone for everyone

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are 10 different student apartments i can name off the top of my head around campus. most of them are affordable for students on budgets ranging from $350-600 per month depending on which apartment complex you choose to live in. They are all safe and secure and include great ammenities like private bath and bedrooms, decks, community pools, computer labs, and gyms. All of them have buses that run to and from campus so you do not have to worry if you don't have a car. In most of the leases each roomate signs a seperate lease so everyone does not get punished if someone cannot pay their months rent. Overall if you choose to live off campus, there are plenty of choices that will make you happy

Majors: Great Professors – The College of Business at East Carolina University has calmed my nerves and confirmed for me that I am headed in the right direction. The professors are very good about making time for you with their office hours, and know alot about what they are doing. It is overall a great learning environment when surrounded by all of their instructors.

Transportation: Saferide Is the Safest – Safe Ride is a shuttle bus system that has a number you can call if you need to get anywhere around campus or in short proximity of the campus. This ride is free and has a very short wait after calling them. It is a much safer option than walking to your destination.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Our dining hall has a variety of stations for all different types of foods including Chinese, Vegetarian, American, Barbeque/Southern-style, but the only problem is the behind-the-scenes nutritions facts label on these foods. If only some of the students knew what these foods were made of! Very unhealthy ingredients, and this is what leads me to making my dinners in my dorm room most of the time.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: Helpful but Limited – ECU has a variety of student housing and they are very helpful if you need to change rooms. The moving options are limited though with few empty rooms.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drinking Is the Main Issue – Drug Safety is as great as it can be without busting in peoples rooms or spontaneous drug tests in class. There are a lot of marijuana users, but I truly believe there are no more than most colleges.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: The clubs downtown are generally small and some have stigmas to them. The one's most locals go to are considered the most dangerous because of their access to weapons. Most people who go DT (downtown) are on campus students and they aren't allowed weaponry. Another club is considered not only racist but iffy with their dress code. ECU clubs are over-hyped because of the drunk attendants overall. However, SupDogs and other eatery places so close to the clubs is AMAZING and the clubs overall play great music.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: A Pirate for Life – I am so happy and thrilled with my decision to attend East Carolina University! The campus is beautiful, the professors are amazing and the school spirit is vibrant. It is a wonderful feeling to sit in Dowdy-Ficklen Staduim and watch the wave of purple and gold and hear the roaring chants as our football team runs onto the field (and I'm not even a fan of football). There are so many various student organizations available to join that I had a hard time narrowing down my membership to just five. I have enjoyed the courses I've taken thus far for my major and I truly feel that I have learned so much since coming to ECU. When I first took a tour of the campus, I instantly felt that I was at home and that feeling has stayed with me ever since. I will definitely be a Pirate for life!

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I rarely feel unsafe on East Carolina's campus. ECU has their own certified police department on campus and I often see police cars and police officers on bikes patrolling the campus. That being said, I still wouldn't recommend walking around at night by yourself. Just like in any city, its best to always be aware of your surroundings when you are walking at night on the campus. The most common crime on campus is theft. Always keep your dorm door locked and never leave your laptop alone in public, not even for a second!

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
