Majors: I have not had an internship yet but my sister is doing hers now for recreational therapy. I think it's ridiculous that she can't have a side job while interning because they are not allowed to have a payed internship and have no other way to earn an income.

3 College Senior

Computers: There are computer labs around campus and I use them often.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: Greenville has a ton of places to eat and a good variety.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: I'd say East Carolina has more of a party scene than some other colleges but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

3 College Senior

Guys & Girls: I haven't made a ton of new friends here but I came in as a transfer. It would have been different if I was a freshman that stayed in the dorms.

4 College Senior

Transportation: I love the bus system. If it weren't for the buses I wouldn't get to class.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: I've had a good experience overall at East Carolina University. I still have a few years left but I feel like I will keep enjoying it.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: All financial aids have their problems because they have a lot of students to help and not everyone is going to receive what they think they should. I have had an average experience with financial aid.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: There are a fair share of police downtown at nights and they help if anyone gets out of control.

3 College Senior

Weather: It tends to rain a lot in Greenville, NC. We also can have hot weather one day and the next day is chilly.

4 College Senior

Academics: I really enjoy my classes and professors. Most of my professors have been very helpful and are there if you need them.

4 College Senior

Academics: I like the major I'm in. We aren't overloaded with school work most of the time and the curriculum is very interesting.

4 College Senior

Facilities: I feel like we have a lot of facilities and programs.

4 College Senior

Facilities: The library is great and has personal study rooms. The Rec center is awesome as well to work out and get active.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: We have our fair amount of crime around campus. I get multiple ECU alerts a month about robberies and assaults.

3 College Senior

Diversity: There is a good amount of diversity on campus and everyone seems to be accepted.

4 College Senior

Health & Safety: Campus health is awful I've never heard one good thing about them. They have safe ride which will pick you up if you are at the library late at night. They also have ECU alerts the send out if there is any danger.

Computers: It is important to have your own computer unless you want to be setting on campus at all times. You can print for free at a lot of places, even though the school doesn't tell you that, joyner is the only place that printing has a quota per student. The computer labs are nice and offer scanners, copiers and even macs and PCs.

3 College Senior

Diversity: A lot of people are religious at this school. People are also very accepting to diversity. Your economic background doesn't matter unless you are in a sorority or frat.

4 College Senior

Majors: I am in nursing. My professors are very tough on us but it is important because one day someones life will be in our hands. The workload is a lot, don't expect to have a social life while in nursing school. They offer interships and a lot of jobs to new grads. Nursing school is do-able, just be ready to spend a lot of time with your nursing school friends.

4 College Senior

Majors: For nursing internships through the school they are not paid.

5 College Senior

Nightlife: There are towns of parties and the bars allow people to come in as 18 year olds and not drink. There are the drunk buses that will drive you home after the bars. Also if you live in the grid you can walk home.

5 College Senior

Transportation: They offer safe ride which will pick you up when the busses aren't running. They also offer "drunk buses" to pick students up from the apartments and take them downtown on weekends. These run until 2:30 AM. These has decreased the amount of DUIs.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: The school will get involved if you get a drinking ticket down town. The school wants it's students to do well. They are not super strict but they will get involved.

5 College Senior

Greek Life: Greek life is not looked down on. The Greek life throws a lot of different social events and awesome fundraisers.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
