Health & Safety: I rarely feel unsafe on East Carolina's campus. ECU has their own certified police department on campus and I often see police cars and police officers on bikes patrolling the campus. That being said, I still wouldn't recommend walking around at night by yourself. Just like in any city, its best to always be aware of your surroundings when you are walking at night on the campus. The most common crime on campus is theft. Always keep your dorm door locked and never leave your laptop alone in public, not even for a second!

Academics: It Is Possible to Double Major! I am a double major in English and History. The English and History majors are flexible enough that they compliment each other and I will be able to finish in four years without having to go to summer school. From my knowlegde, it is also possble to double major at ECU and graduate on time with other programs too. Besides the core classes required for my majors, I have the opportunity to choose from a long list of courses and form my majors around the concentration that I desire. I am very pleased with the variety of classes offered in my majors and excited to graduate with two BA degrees!

Off-Campus Dining: An Excellent Variety – Greenville has a very nice variety of dining and a good few are in walking distance of the campus. Hibachi Japan, La Hacienda, Krispy Kreme, Thai 360, Starbucks, Sup Dogs, Tipsy Teapot (cafe), Chico's, Jimmy John's, McDonald's, Arby's and Wendy's are all within walking distance of the campus. There are also a few other dining and bar spots near the campus in the downtown area. Other dining in the Greenville area (you will need some kind of transportation to get there) include Red Lobster, Mazatlan, Chic-fil-A, Chili's, Dunkin' Donuts, Cook-Out, Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant (my personal favorite), several Hibachi places, several Chinese places, Panera Bread, Cold Stone, Olive Garden, Logan's, Checkers, Bruegger's Bagel Bakery, Parker's Barbeque and several others. Many dining locations offer a student discount. The cost at most places is reasonable, but as a college student, I prefer to use a meal plan and eat on campus because it is easier and more convenient for me with my schedule.

Academics: Education First – East Carolina has a repuation for being a party school, but that reputation in no way reflects the value of an education from ECU. The professors are intelligent, knowledgeable in their field and most are eager and willing to help if you ask questions. The course work is rigorous according to the level of the class and most classes (excluding some Freshman level courses) are relatively small (20-30). I have truly enjoyed all of the classes I've taken thus far in my major and all the professors have been friendly and very helpful. My classes have been challenging and I feel grateful to have acquired so much knowledge from the amazing professors at ECU.

Majors: I'm Happy With My Major – Though I have a passion for art and many people thought that's what my major should be (personally do not believe i'm that good) i chose nursing. It is a struggle trying to get my gpa where it needs to be since i messed up my freshman year but im pulling it back up. I wouldn't change my decision to be a nursing major. My goal is to be a neonatal nurse practitioner and eventually a neonatologist. Before I settle down as an nnp i want to be a traveling nurse for a year or two. I do not have concerns about getting a job in my field, nurses are always needed somewhere.

Diversity: Fairly Diverse – At ECU it is pretty diverse with people from many different ethinic backgrounds. There is a larger amount of white students and second would be blacks. There are very few hispanics here and native americans here, this is the reason i give ECU a B instead of an A for its diversity rating.

Nightlife: Skip Parties – There are parties that take place and especially during football season, it can get crazy!

Overall Experience: It's Great – I love going to school here. There is so much to do on campus and the culture is awesome!!

Facilities: Facilties Are Nice. The gym is two stories and up to date. It is also clean, and the students that work there are nice. The student center is large - half of the building is three stories. The library is large, however the public is allowed inside. This means less parking places for students and that it is sometimes noisy - at least on the first floor. There is always something to do on campus.

Drug Safety: More People Drink – Of course there are drugs on campus, there are drugs on every campus. But at ECU, more people drink.

Majors: On My Way – I just recently changed my major for the fourth time therefore I have yet to begin taking classes for my major. For the past two years I have been taking pre-requisite courses.

Computers: Awesome Computer Labs – The computers at ECU are in great condition and numbers. In the two years of attendance at ECU I never had to wait for a computer, even during final exam week. ECU ensured that their students would be able to get their work done by providing high speek internet access all over campus.

Guys & Girls: My Peeps – The guys and girls at my school are versatile. Every person comes with a different personality and view on life. Most importantly, majority of the guys and girls are focused on graduation college in a reasonable amount of time.

Greek Life: I tried to pledge two different Greek Sororities but my schedule proved to hectic to pledge both. Greek Life at ECU is great as long as you are well prepared and very good at managing time

Computers: Labs Have More Than Enough Seats – I don't ever remember having to wait for a seat in the computer lab. There are more than enough seats in the many computer labs on campus, with super fast web connections. Logging on and surfing the web is a breeze!

Facilities: Library Is the Best Building on Campus – The libraries at East Carolina University are amazing!!! They're spacious so students are allowed to have personal space to study. The computers are extremely fast so they are very time convenient. the employees are very helpful with any questions or needs students may have. The amenities like the Java City cafes are amazing! Affordable fast coffee and snacks make for a great uplift to the day!!

Campus Housing: Dorm life is preety decent. I think some of the rooms could be a little bigger but it's pretty good living despite some of the dorms being further from campus.

3 College Senior

Campus Dining: Ok but Could Be Better – The dining places are ok but we need more choices to choose from. Sometimes the prices can be a little ricdiculous and that's a problem as well

Transportation: Oh the Places You Will Go – Transportation at ECU is very reliable and easy to use. The busses will take you all over campus and they run very frequently. There are even busses that will take you off campus to places like the Target shopping area, the medical campus and the stadium. They are free and never too crowded. I used them all the time!

Campus Strictness: Be Smart – Everyone wants to have fun when they go to college, but having too much could get you into a good amount of trouble. Campus police and Greenville police are knowledgable about what all goes on during the night hours at ECU. If you can not control yourself or make the wrong decisions, they will do their job and take the proper means necessary to make sure you don't make any more poor choices. You will be in college now, you will be treated like an adult so be careful. This is serious stuff.

3 College Junior

Athletics: It Better Be Football – Ecu has all the sports but the best sport is Football, there is a lot of hype around it but it is all worth it when its time to paint the stadium purple.
Baseball is next up!

Campus Housing: I prefer central campus to west campus and college hill, but it really depends on what you like. Central campus has smaller buildings with better amenities, but mostly upperclassmen. Central campus is also closest to the classroom buildings. The food is best on college hill. The high rises in west campus are old and not super comfortable, some may still not have AC.

3 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Housing: Many Places to Live at Many Price Points – Apartments and houses are available to rent all over the city of Greenville. Your happiness depends on the number of people you wish to live with and the distance you are willing to travel for classes. There is not much parking for commuter students, so you may drive for 5-15 minutes and walk another 10-15 more to get to class. Nearer the hospital prices are higher and the more popular locations (any thing with "Pirates" in the name) are also more expensive.

2 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: Some Places Are to Be Avoided at Night – Residence halls are safe, but you should keep your doors locked at night if concerned about property being borrowed without consent. Some places on campus are not particularly well-lit at night. There are blue-light phones all over campus, but you should try not to walk alone at night. The edges of campus have some problems with non-students mugging students late at night.

3 Recent Alumnus

Campus Strictness: Tolerant Atmosphere With Reasonable Expectations – Dorm visiting hours are enforced, but punishment for violations is not overly harsh. Most RAs are understanding and friendly.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
