Greek Life: I don't care about them but they throw good parties

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: ECU has several "no tolerance" policies. You can be kicked out of the dorms for underage drinking, drugs and stealing someone else's personal property. RAs are not afraid of breaking up parties or turning students in for smoking marijuana in their rooms. Fines are steep for illegal and unauthorized parking. Campus police are everywhere and are very visible so beware.

Transportation: ECU has a great campus bus system! The buses run regular routes on and off campus; they go into town to shopping centers and off-campus student apartments. There is no cost to ride the campus busses (I think it's included in tuition, student fees or something like that). There is a regional airport that connects to the much larger Raleigh-Durham airport. Greyhound Bus Line leaves only once each day. There is no train service in Greenville but recently a new bus route was added that will take passengers to Wilson to board a train there to Raleigh/Durham.

Local Atmosphere: Greenville, NC is a medium size town with plenty of shopping venues. There's a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop right off campus and some nice shops and clubs within walking distance. The campus is located on the fringe of downtown so traffic can be crazy. There are some pretty shady neighborhoods close by so it wouldn't be safe to venture too far from campus alone or at night. There isn't much to do besides shop but the people are very accommodating to the students and staff and the local attitude seems to be favorable.

Nightlife: Sometimes there are things that i dont like to do but its the only thing to do.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Sometimes they have the same food and sometimes its nasty.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Its not bad but also not great. Food gets boring, there isn't much of a selection and the food doesn't have a superb taste.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The Campus Housing isnt too strict where I am and the place is clean daily. Its also close to downtown and the frat houses and classes.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek Life is big at ECU. Most people have to know somebody to get into a frat's party. Most frats care only about partying and not about networking for future jobs.

Academics: Great Medical and dental schools and that brings everything up in quality. It is a small town feeling school, though, and that is a plus.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: My experience so far has been great. My adviser is very knowledgeable and helpful.

Weather: The weather is mild most of the time, with very little winter weather

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There are a variety of dining options on campus. There are popular restaurants such as Subway, Chili's, Chick-Fil-A, and more. There also two dining halls located on campus. There is a variety of options sure to meet anyone's requirements.

Facilities: East Carolina has a fabulous four story library with plenty of study space for all its students. There is also a fairly new recreational center on campus where students can go and work out with their friends. There is also an area on campus called the mall which is in the center of campus and has tons of benches, squirrels, and trees for students to relax and enjoy a bright sunny afternoon.

Athletics: East Carolina is highly known for their football and football traditions. The Pirates love football and tailgating with friends and family. The football games are always packed and filled with screaming excited fans in purple and gold. The student section also known as the boneyard is where 10,000 students come together to cheer on their fellow pirates.

Academics: I came to East Carolina University A nursing major and then eventually a Nutrition. I gave my school a B+ because I love it but it does not quite deserve and A. my classes are always fun and have great discussions and really give you a chance to express yourself. But this school bleeds you dry of money especially if you are like me and out of state.

Facilities: East Carolina has a wonderful business school that provides its students with many opportunities to interact with professionals in the business world in order to develop relationships with hopes of future internships and jobs. The student life at the university is exceptional. As a division one school, we have an immense amount of school spirit as we cheer on our football and basketball teams. Sporting events bring students, friends, families, and faculty members together, which counts for a better college environment.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: We have free buses to many shopping centers, off campus living apartments, and other parts of town. We also have "Safe Ride" for at night. You give them a call and they will come pick you up.

College Sophomore

Scholarships: I personally do not qualify for financial aid, any help I have gotten is from scholarships.

Local Atmosphere: Plenty to do on and off campus, and many places to eat both on and off campus.

Campus Dining: I think that the Campus Dining is overall very good. There are two main dining halls (one on College Hill, and one on West End). Throughout campus there are several eateries (Chic Fil A, Chilis, Subway, etc). The dining hall food is pretty good. Breakfast is amazing, with a made to order omlette station EVERY MORNING, Do it Yourself Belgian Waffles, amongst buffet style set up. Fried Chicken Wednesday is the BEST!! Everyone looks forward to Wednesdays because of Fried Chicken Wednesday during Lunchtime.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at ECU depends on if you are looking at on campus or off campus. Many students who live off campus take part in the use of recreational drugs. ECU is a drug free campus, so they have a zero tolerance for drug usage on campus. However, many students do engage in drug usage off campus.

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere at East Carolina University will show you a lot of school spirit! Everyone on campus and in Greenville love ECU & will show it. You will see a lot of diversity on campus and be able to interact with individuals from backgrounds other than your own.

Off-Campus Dining: I loved the food located in Greenville, NC! I always had somewhere to go that I knew I would enjoy. There are many restaurants and sports bars around for hanging out with friends or for a fun date night.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academics: I give my major of Family and Community Services at East Carolina University a grade of (A-). I gave this grade because I really enjoyed my program, and all the classes that came with it! They gave us the opportunity to take a wide range of courses throughout the university, while completing different programs in the community. It did not give a perfect grade because I feel that my major did not help us enough in finding employment for after graduation, and I still am not working in my field.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
