Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining options do provide many different options. The options include different types of food and different prices!

Drug Safety: It is what you make it. I'm not into the drugs, so I was never pressured. However, it is rampant across the campus if you're looking to get into it. Drinking, on the otherhand, is basically a second major for the majority of the students. The ones who graduate from ECU are the ones who managed to find that balance between work and play.

Academics: It is a lot of work, but I really enjoyed what I was studying, so it was worthwhile. There were plenty of computers we had access to, and the online component of the classes I had made them so manageable. I LOVED my major and my professors.

Weather: When it rains, it floods. Seriously, Greenville must be a flood plain. I'm talking everything except the hill (top of campus) is flooded. Sometimes, it is so bad that there are entire parking lots (cars included) under water. We learn to live with it though, so it isn't terrible. Also, when it snows, it is usually more ice than anything, and it makes for some fun times taking the trays from the dining hall and sledding down the hills. Other than that, the weather is nice and it is usually pretty mild.

Nightlife: Well - the "downtown" area is always hoppin' and there are plenty of places to be - cheap drinks make it an even better deal, and the "drunk bus" cycles make the experience pretty safe as well, because they go back to both campus and many of the surrounding apartments. However, if you are from a bigger city, beware. The "downtown" area is literally a little area right off the side of the campus, and on the other side of it is the ghetto. If you stay with your group you'll have a great time. Just don't be that random person that wanders off because then you could get yourself in trouble. Overall though, it is great. Everyone bonds over being a Pirate, and there aren't any strangers.

Academics: At ECU, I got the best education I could every imagine. I was able to get a degree from a school in which I felt it actually meant something. The professors at ECU are so knowledgeable, but most of them are also extremely personable. They are kind, considerate, humorous, and always willing to help - if you reach out to them, most of them are more than happy to find a student who is concerned enough about his education. I really, really enjoyed going to class at ECU, because the professors made it worthwhile.

Off-Campus Housing: There is a plethora of places you can find to live off campus. Most of them are very affordable with a variety of excellent amenities. I really enjoyed the years I lived off campus. Some places are not as safe as others, some places are known as the loud, party places, and some are older and more run-down, but overall, there are so many wonderful places to live in Greenville. My only advice - don't go random roommate in an apartment, because you don't want to get yourself into buckets of drama! :)

Facilities: Pirate football is amazing at East Carolina. The games are so much fun and are an experience like no other. The "mall" area, which is a huge grassy area in the heart of campus, is where students can hang out and play games. The library is huge and is a great resource to get school work done. There are so many campus events with free things and games that you'll never get bored.

Campus Dining: The dining halls can offer good food, but it's easy to get tired of eating there after awhile. There is variety though; there is a Chili's on campus, a Chick-fil-a and a Subway. You can use your meal plan at any place on campus and it is easy to avoid using extra flex dollars.

Computers: East Carolina has great computer labs with fast, reliable computers. The wireless access is excellent and I would recommend a personal computer. There are many free printing areas that work great so I wouldn't waste money on a printer.

Facilities: I currently belong to my school's College of Business Living-Learning Community which is one of the many great programs they offer. Getting involved it different activities around campus is a great way of meeting new people and learning about new things. East Carolina has many unique attributes such as their on-campus movie theater showing free movies daily and their four-story library equipped with Mac computers. I love it here and it is a unique, diverse school to attend.

Parking: Parking has always been an issue at ECU. Some is on campus but most is off-campus. It costs alot and you may have to ride the bus to get to your car as a freshmen. There rarely tends to be enough spots. The bus system is the best way to go. When I was there, Greenville had the second best bus system in the state. Students drive the ECU buses which is great money.

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere is positive if you make it positive. If you go looking for trouble of course you will find it. But there is something for everyone here and you can pursue any interest you may have. You may have to do some looking around town but you are sure to find something to peak your interests as more buildings and attractions are being built here. There is a lot of culture here and we have a big arts festival every year and its great!

Campus Housing: The dorms are in decent shape that I have seen. The only issues you may face are the residents and their habits. But if reported they will be removed or told to act in a mannerly way. The RAs are really good with maintaining the dorms.

2 College Junior

Nightlife: The night life is for students who are 21 and older, but the transportation system is good at night if you go out.

5 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: no cheating, we have an honest policy. and caught cheating or helping an individual as they take the credit as their own is frowned upon. 0 in the course is given, 0 on the assignment, and possible termination from the University.

5 College Freshman

Weather: fall is great. summer is hot. winter is cold and gray. spring is the best part! it rains a lot and floods campus, but they have a great drainage system now. also, rain boots are a fashion now!

5 College Freshman

Transportation: the buses run all day long, however they do not run at night. but they do have a safe ride if you are at the library late at night and want to get home safely, you can call them up and they will come get you

5 College Freshman

Academics: registration is easy, classes fill up really fast so sit up all night to get your right classes in

5 College Freshman

Academics: all the professors care about us as long as we show interest in our grades they will bend over backwards for us to achieve our goals and pass the class

Weather: Greenville has the craziest weather. It rains a lot throughout the year. When there is a substantial amount of rain, it usually floods. There are also plenty of great days in which you are able to go the mall and do homework or just relax. They even have socket on the mall. It's all what you make it though.

3 College Junior

Transportation: The transportation system (both university associated and public) is pretty consistent, however the transportation associated with the university does not run all night.

4 College Junior

Computers: There are readily available computer labs. Printing is free in many locations (specifically on the Health Science campus) and the university gives students a $20 credit for printing in other locations, so a personal printer may be a nice additive, but definitely not necessary. I've never had problems accessing the internet on campus.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: I chose ECU because of its diversity. I love that when I leave my room I can look around to see white, black, and ethnic males and females. ECU does a great job of making everyone feel welcome and they have programs that interest EVERYONE.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I don't eat out much here at ECU. Mostly because being a broke college student doesn't allow much play money but Sup Dogs, Jimmy Johns, and Wings Over Greenville are very popular places that us students eat at. They have pretty reasonable prices for students.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
