5 College Senior

Diversity: Diversity on campus is found everywhere, there are so many types of people at this university. I have learned about other cultures just from meeting people in my class who were not born in America.

4 College Junior

Athletics: Student Rec is awesome: numerous machines and weight area.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of options. Lots of places give student discounts or deliver.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: There are lots of emergency lights around campus, and campus police are pretty quick to get to you if you call.

Guys & Girls: There are a lot of good looking guys around campus.

Transportation: Transportation is cheap and convenient

Nightlife: House parties are big here, as is downtown. ECU tries to get students to NOT drink and drive so the transportation offered is great.

Campus Dining: Dining halls and campus restaurants are good but can get old fast. Mendenhall and Wright place have some of the better options.

Computers: The network went through updates this past year so it and wireless were sketchy, sometimes it didn't even work. The number of labs are great I just wish they all were open a little longer. I sometimes had problems with availability of labs, but there are really only certain times of the day its full. Most, if not all, of the labs had free printing.

Campus Housing: Campus living is expensive but it covers everything. Amenities are basic for dorms and pretty social.

Off-Campus Housing: Prices vary with each complex. There are really nice ones and really bad ones. I've only been to a few so I don't know much else.

Facilities: School spirit is out of this world. I've never seen students so loyal and enthusiastic as Pirates are.

Facilities: The Mall is a great place to just sit out in the grass and read or study. I like sitting next to the Wright fountain on a warm day to read. Joyner can be frustrating to study in, but the 3rd floor is totally silent. Mendenhall is wonderful! There is always something going on there, same with Wright Place.

Weather: It rains A LOT! But when it's sunny it's perfect. Winter and spring can be weird, we've been getting a lot of snow the past few years.

Academics: Registration is intense and stressful, but if you're prepared it'll be a lot easier. The professors and classes offered are wonderful.

Academics: Depending on the professor and class, workload can be medium to heavy. This isn't an easy major by any means, but it is very rewarding.

Overall Experience: I love ECU! I wouldn't want to go anywhere else! The school spirit and atmosphere is phenomenal! The professors are great and everyone is really friendly. We've been known as a party school for the longest time, and yes we party a lot, but we're also in class working hard to get good grades and be successful.

Greek Life: Greek life is very big on our campus, there are events almost every week. Some non-Greeks are very anti Greek, but I've met a lot of nice Greeks, and a lot of not-so-nice Greeks. It's like that with everybody, though, so it's really nothing new.

Diversity: Everyone I have met is very accepting and interested in others' background if it is different from their own.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
