4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining is varied. You can get most anything from Mc Donalds to fine dining within a 15-20 min from campus.

Nightlife: Night life is usually for students the are over 21. Some do allow 18-20 yr olds in as long as they don't drink. They also have Hooka bars for anyone 18 and over and they usually have pool tables if you don't care to smoke.

Athletics: Sports ECU are really big, Especially football as with many universities. The county is very pro sports as it can be seen everywhere through out the town with banks and retail stores displaying the school colors and mascot.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The dining halls are conveniently located at either end of the campus. The food is fair but never changes. It's the same thing every day of the week. So for example every Monday you get chicken and every Wednesday you get pasta. They have other choices but If you're not there early the best food is gone and they don't replace it with enough. The outside vendors seem to do well and I enjoy the food from them because they have plenty and don't run out.

Campus Dining: Food sucks!! The staff is very in between about how they prepare food. Its good one day then gross the next but 50% of the time its edible. Its way over priced for the amount of food you get and the quality. That is why I opted out of the meal-plan after my first semester at ECu

Campus Housing: College suites at ECU are supposed to be the best but they are just as crowded and lack space as the other dorms. White Hall was the best I was in there last year. I get tired of sharing bathrooms with people though because girls don't know how to clean up after themselves and it gets annoying. Living off-campus is the best option its cheaper and your not roped into an expensive, crappy meal-plan like living in the dorms! Never again for me lol

Local Atmosphere: I really do not like Greenville. Coming from a big city to somewhere so small was a huge culture shock. There is not much diversity in the city itself, but the school is very diverse.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: Campus life is pretty decent. There is always a program or event going on that is fun for everyone.

4 College Senior

Transportation: The transportation is really good at the school. The buses are always running. If you need a ride late at night they have a night service taxi that will come and pick you up.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: Students dont really do drugs. Alcohol is a lot more popular around the campus. But it depends on the scene you are in.

3 College Freshman

Weather: To the students at East Carolina University the acronym ECU stands for Everyone Carries an Umbrella. Needless to say, it rains a lot in Greenville, NC so if you are attending ECU make sure you have a sturdy umbrella.

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing is expensive and not worth the money. There's definitely more crime that happens off campus. However, the ECU busses do go to the apartment complexes so it makes it easy to get back and forth to class

Campus Dining: The dining halls really suck. The food is bad and the hours aren't flexible enough. The campus restaurants like Starbucks and Chili's are good, but there are only a few restaurants. Also, the meal plan is weird. If you go to the restaurants, your meal plan only covers part of the cost. Considering how much we pay for the meal plan, we're not getting much value. It's supposed to be revamped in the fall however. We'll see.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: The school is predominantly white but many other ethnic groups are represented and for the most part, are made to feel welcomed.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Transportation at East Carolina University is fairly easy. The shuttles run a pretty good schedule with great time intervals.

1 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Nightlife in Greenville sucks! The house parties are always busted by cops, events in Greenville are dangerous due to greenvilians. The only option for fun is downtown which sucks too because its just a bunch of lame clubs that cater to a certain race.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: There is always something going on at ECU. The bars and clubs are fun and have cheap drink specials. There are undercover cops though, but they are easy to spot out.

4 College Senior

Weather: It does rain a lot here, but you really get used to it. The dorms and buses are close to the buildings so you don't get soaked going to class.

5 College Senior

Facilities: ECU library is amazing, they just redid some of the lounges upstairs and turned them into study rooms, which provides more quiet space during study time. They also recently redid the student center and it feels a lot more homey.

5 College Senior

Facilities: ECU's campuis is beautiful, you will always see people out and about on campus, no matter what time. Football is a big part of ECU, join the student pirate club and tailgate at the bottom of college hill! It's a great experience and you meet so many people. We have so many dorm programs for incoming freshman also, I did Freshman Experience, which really helped me to get involved on campus!

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is somewhat a big deal at ECU and can be very cliquey. However, if you're not in greek life there's still a lot of bars/clubs to go to downtown on weekends.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: The facilities are okay. There is always room in the library.

1 College Freshman

Facilities: The town of Greenville sucks, a large amount of students can be described as trashy or slutty, and the student population isn't intelligent enough to have a real football cheer/chant. "Pirates arghhhh!" Really? That's the best you can do?

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: The food is pretty average compared to other schools. There is little variety in the dining halls, although they do attempt to switch an option here and there and have theme nights.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are many places to eat off campus. Greenville offers many options for food. Sit down restaurants, fast food, and deli shops, are only several options available.

Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
