Greek Life: Greek Life is for the pricks of campus. Most of the members act to a higher standard but have no true place in the group. I think greek life is a waste of time.

Parking: Parking is always hard to find. The parking people are asshole. They give tickets for the simplest things.

3 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Everyone is nice and open. Guys have the tendency to be assholes to girls. The girls are amazingly hot. I find the girls out here very attractive. J

Weather: ECU is known among is students and faculty as Everyone Carries Umbrellas. It will start raining at the drop of a hat, so you need to always be prepared. Other than that, it''s you're typical east coast weather: hot and humid in the summer with cold and occasional snow in the winter.

Drug Safety: Drugs are not a huge problem at East Carolina, but you'll definitely find a drug scene if you're looking for one. No one cares if you do or don't do drugs. Be careful, because you will be caught and possibly kicked off campus. Watch out for ALE downtown. If you're drinking downtown, they will catch you and you will get a drinking ticket.

Greek Life: Greek Life is not a huge part of ECU. If you're in a fraternity or sorority, cool, but if you're not, that's okay too! There are not many houses, but the parties are good. Greek Life is another good way to meet people and make friends, but it is not the only way.

Campus Housing: There are so many choices for where you want to live on campus! There are three neighborhoods that you can chose from, and most students are placed in dorms depending on the neighborhood chosen. One is right in the middle of campus, one has the downtown just a few steps away, and one is close to all of the athletic facilities. I lived on College Hill my freshman year, and it is said that the nicest dorms are there. The only complaint I have about living on College Hill is the fact that it is far from the academic buildings. It is at least a ten minute walk to class, so be prepared if you chose to live there! However, dorms at ECU are pretty nice and generally bigger than dorms at other universities. Living on campus a great way to make friends too!

Academics: East Carolina offers an online process for registering for classes and allows flexibility in course load by giving students option of part time or full time study. ECU also offers a complete online MSN program which I love because it works with my schedule.

Computers: I have found the computers were very crowded most of the time on campus except late at night. I ended up having to borrow my mom's laptop to complete assignments.

Campus Housing: I do not have much experience with living on campus as I have only ever lived in two dorms. Umstead Hall is a pretty good dorm option as it is located close to the classes. It is however, further from the food courts unless you are not opposed to running across the busy street then hiking the 6 minute walk to the cafeteria. If I had been driving while living at this dorm, I think my experience would have been better. I later stayed at another dorm for a brief time during summer school and thoroughly enjoyed Jones Hall. The closeness to the cafeteria was great. It was also close to the stadium. Only downside is it was further from the classes and you have to run up about 25 stairs to get to the dorm (fastest route). There are other dorms too that are in the heart of the campus, but like I said I do not have as much experience with these.

Diversity: East Carolina truly provides a diverse population of students and faculty. Students who attend this college come from different cities, states, even countries. Some of my college friends are originally from Africa and Thailand. There are organizations on campus to support diversity as well to include Black Student Nurse groups, Men in Nursing, African and Asian organizations, various on campus church groups, etc. And the best part is, these groups willingly share their information about their culture to the masses on campus and do not exclude others because of cultural differences.

Nightlife: All of the clubs downtown are right beside each other and most people go out every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. parties can be found by asking around, twitter, or following the crowd.

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of restaurants and fast food places to choose from and delivery services as well. most restaurants require car or bus transportation but its still there and reachable.

Local Atmosphere: The Greenville area is very proud of its ECU Pirates and it can be seen in almost every store in town. their participation in the community and seasonal sports are phenomenal. They also hold an appreciate day for the Pirates. there are always activities going on on campus as well.

Campus Housing: The campus dorms are overall pretty nice. The dormitory atmosphere is quite comfortable. The people are very nice and kind. It is very easy for people to develop friendships, with there being plenty of a social atmosphere (e.g., dormitory social events).

4 College Junior

Academics: There are many opportunities for research on campus, the hands-on experience helps with future employment. The courses can be demanding, but effective.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Officers are plentiful around campus, which leads to a low visibility of drugs, but it all depends on who you hang out with. Peer pressure is very low from personal experience.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Greenville has things to do if one is motivated to stay busy. It is a relatively small town, but the downtown area is lively and there are always great places to eat around town

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: A lot of fun, get involved in school, see all the activitites and a first-hand view of all the babes on campus. Besides everything is extremely close if you live on campus

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: I personally like the transit option. The campus isn't the largest but students get pretty lazy with walking. During classes, the buses stop every 10 minutes at each bus stop. And for those who go out on Thursdays & Fridays, the transit runs until midnight. Saferide also provides rides at most hours of the night

Greek Life: Greeks just have reputation as partying too much, judging others, a "who's-who" thing.
Not something I will seek while at college. Nothing like Greek ideals from 50 yrs ago!

Academics: I love everything about east carolina university. Its not necessarily EASY however its not extremely hard. The teachers are very helpful and understanding and i absolutely love the degree I'm currently working towards- fashion merchandising. I enjoy the assignments I'm given and look forward to class

4 College Junior

Diversity: The student body is very diverse. There are many different club affiliations as well for different ethnicity's

5 College Junior

Athletics: Football season at East Carolina University is pretty huge. If a game is at 6pm, fans will be tailgating at 8am.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I personally think the dorms are nice at East Carolina University. Living in the dorms gives you the whole college experience and you can make friends easier this way! Only thing is its more expensive to live on campus than in an apartment.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
