4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: I lived in an all girls dorm so the policies in my dorm were very strict. Definitely no alcohol, drugs, etc and no boys after 2 a.m. The rules were enforced and I felt safe around campus due to all the security.

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I do not drink or do drugs and so I rarely go downtown because I feel so awkward when I do because everyone there is so drunk. I do not usually see drugs being used at parties, but I have definitely heard of them being used or noticed people who seem to be under the influence of something.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: Our library and computer labs are excellent and they are plenty of them around campus. It is definitely useful to have a laptop, but if you do not have one or yours is not working it is very easy to find another computer to use on campus that will be reliable for what you need to accomplish.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: I am not much of a partier so I do not really go to the bar/club scene much, but from what I hear and see most students love our downtown area. The cover charges for underage people is pretty expensive, but there is definitely a variety of places to go downtown.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: ECU football games are the best! The whole town of Greenville bleeds purple and gold on game days and everyone has great school spirit.

Transportation: Our bus system is very convenient and useful for our campus. They are multiple apartment complexes that are off campus and the bus system makes sure to send buses to these places so that these students can commute back and forth to class in an easy and affordable way.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: We have a great meal plan that allows you to either do to the dining hall for meals or eat meals other places on campus such as Chick-Fil-A, Panda Express, Einstein bagels, and other campus restaurants.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love ECU, great campus, great teachers, and just a all over good atmosphere.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Im not 100% sure on all the beliefs and backgrounds of others, but acceptance wise I have never seen somebody get turned down or talked about because they're of different ethnicity.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Its okay with shopping here, I usually go out of town to do my shopping. And the sports events (football) are a lot of fun going to!

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: We have a wide variety of people at ECU. From sorority girls, frat boys, to athletes and the very smart artsy people.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Never lived on campus but friends that I knew hated it.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Love having campus bus. But we do have to pay monthly towards our rent for it.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Never lived in a dorm but had friends who have.

1 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking absolutely sucks on campus!

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Not a huge on campus eater. Not very healthy.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I enjoy where I live, although its pricey.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: I always bring my laptop with me just because so many people are using ones in library or computer labs.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: It tends to rain a lot in Greenville.

Health & Safety: On campus is amazing and in the downtown area is fantastic. There is a strong police presence, however there are parts of Greenville I wouldn't go at night, and those places are in walking distance of campus.

Local Atmosphere: It's a small town build around the University. Not too much to do, but still enough that living is nice.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
