3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Things are much more expensive on campus than it would be off campus.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: It's very country and quiet during the week.

2 College Freshman

Facilities: It's boring, but not on the weekends.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's like a typical scene. Its apparent, but because people are used to it, no attention is paid.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Since my major is biology, the teachers are very caring and willing to help you if you're struggling.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: This was not my first choice school. It is hard as a freshman to get involved on campus when trying to focus on your grades.

Guys & Girls: Depending on where they stay and what they have grown up with is how they act. You can tell the ones who had to work for what they got compared to the ones that have been handed everything to. Most girls and guys I have ran into have been fun outgoing people. But, I have also been my fair share of the stuck up ones as well.

Diversity: East Carolina doesn't really have a problem with diversity. Of course your going to have the groups of people who have been attending ECU together for some years such as the seniors and juniors. But instead of that its not that bad. I do have a friend that is Indian and she knows and has meet a lot of other Indians people and they hang out now.

Academics: I love how ECU does the classes and the different majors. They print it all out on a piece of paper for you showing you the classes everybody has to take that I need as well as the classes that I need to declare my major. This is really helpful for me so I can go ahead and plan classes a head of time. As well as see my progress over the semesters.

Academics: ECU offers a lot of academics for people to go into and study. There is one that I would love and want as a second major but, ECU doesn't really have enough classes on that subject. Both my parents are hearing impaired and I want to become an interpreter as well as an accountant. ECU only carries two classes for sign language.

Overall Experience: I love the school I am attending it is great!! The only thing I would maybe change would be living on campus instead of driving back and fort 30 minutes every day but, my overall experience is great

Health & Safety: I feel pretty safe at ECU. Even though I am a freshman I do see cops circling buildings and driving around all the time but they don't get in the way or anything. Which makes me feel really safe with my campus.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: I don't go to our campus dining but I do hear a lot of good things about it. Defiantly since it is open so late, so on them busy study nights when you get hungry you can go get a bite to eat.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I don't know because I am not apart of a frat house or an sorority.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I do not stay in a campus house. I drive to school everyday so I can't really rate any of these things except for the social atmosphere and maybe the looks of the buildings.

4 College Freshman

Parking: Since I do not live on campus that parking isn't too bad for me. The price of the parking pass was outrageous but besides that our parking at East Carolina isn't too bad at all. The spaces do fill up fast but you can normally find a space somewhere it just involves a longer walk to the bus stop.

Weather: Ugh it changes so fast...in the morning you're in sandals and in the afternoon you're sportin rain boots.

Guys & Girls: Most of the students on campus are too full of themselves to talk to many other people that are not in the same cliques.

Local Atmosphere: The safety here is a big concern on campus. The rules are clear and the police are here mainly to keep us safe. The local attitude toward students is typically pretty good. They are usually nice to the students.

Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining areas have a lot of variety and they are very convenient.

3 College Freshman

Academics: I am actually about to switch majors so I am finishing this semester with my previous major. The workload is not too bad so far but the curriculum is a little overwhelming.

Academics: The professors that I have had at the school are all extremely helpful and they seem like the genuinely care about the success of their students.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
