5 College Junior

Scholarships: Never have had any problems with financial aid.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Most places are not walking distance which is a bummer. But ECU does have good bus systems that go to apartment complexes.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of good places to eat and not all at bad prices either.

5 College Junior

Campus Housing: Really love living on campus. Close to classes and library. Also the campus bus is accessible if you have no car and need to go shopping for practically anything.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: There are quite a few bars and clubs to choose from. If you are not into that type of scene, there are always things that go on on campus during the weekend like free movies and events.

4 College Junior

Academics: The professors are wonderful and really want you to learn and be excited about the material that they are teaching. The registration process is easy (you do it on your own, online after meeting with your advisor) although some times it is hard to get the class you want if you are not an upperclassman.

The library has many study areas and study rooms with different floors where they enforce you to be quiet.

4 College Junior

Drug Safety: The campus police and city police here are very forceful when it comes to drugs and underage drinking. It happens, but isn't very noticeable.

4 College Junior

Diversity: There is a lot of diversity on the campus as well as many different diversity/ethnic groups and organizations that can be joined.

5 College Junior

Computers: There are many computer labs on campus either in general buildings, dorm rooms, departmental buildings, not to mentions the number of computers in the library. Printing at all these locations is free with the exception of the library, however you are given a certain amount of money you can use to print in the library. You can also rent laptops/iPads to do work on. The wifi network and speed is very reliable.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
