3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I'm not in Greek life, so I don't have an opinion about it except for I think it's a waste of money.

4 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: There is a large number of police that work the ECU area, not to mention police from Greenville Police Department.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on campus is exactly how I expected it to be, I wouldn't live on campus ever again though.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Safety/ security on campus do their best to make sure that students are safe.

4 Recent Alumnus

Academics: The program is working with a local school so students can come in, observe a teacher, and co-teach.

Off-Campus Dining: There are nice local restaurants.

Campus Housing: People seem to think that housing on campus is okay.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: People who are minorities or considered "different" are very accepted at ECU.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I've only been to a couple of places off- campus and the food seems okay.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: ECU Transit helps me get to my parking lot and to Walmart if I need to get things from there

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Administration/ campus safety and police do their very best to make sure that students that attend their university remain safe around the university

5 College Senior

Academics: We have high standards for our different programs. Our professors, for the most part, are highly qualified.

5 College Senior

Majors: I absolutely love my program. We have a number of incredible schools/majors at our university and should be recognized.

College Senior

Majors: I have not had any internships, but I have worked on campus as a lead tutor.

3 College Senior

Weather: Rain is pretty much standard and everyone carries an umbrella. Snow/ice tends to shut campus down, but we're in the south so this is standard.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: The only issue with campus strictness is the policy of visitors in dorms. It's ridiculous.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: Occasionally it seems like the health center is passing you along, but the facility is beautiful. Campus could do with more lights. At night, because of the lack of lights and off-campus crime, I do not feel safe walking alone.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: The options for off-campus dining is pretty standard. There is a good variety of cuisine, but I would say most restaurants' food is typical of anywhere else.

5 College Senior

Athletics: ECU has the best school spirit and all athletic events demonstrate this. Arrgghh!

5 College Senior

Transportation: Our ECU buses make it super easy and convenient to get to campus and around the community.

4 College Senior

Greek Life: Though I am not a member of any Greek organization, I have friends who are. Greek life creates a great sense of community among its members.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: I have only had experience with receiving funding from the North Carolina Teaching Fellow Program, but every semester I have received my funds without issue.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Though I prefer to live off-campus, campus housing provides a great service to first-year college students.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: fun time, and a lot of cops so you feel safe

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
