College Freshman

Athletics: I don't play any sports so I don't have an opinion about the athletics department. Lots of fan support and lots of school spirit. The majority of the merchandise in Dowdy has a lot of sports-related clothing and other stuff.

1 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is probably the stupidest, most ANNOYING part of ECU. I hate it. I hate it I hate it I hate it. Please get rid of it. At least make sure your members are classy - not just have money.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's alright. You can't really regulate these sorts of things because kids all over Greenville do it anyway. Most students live off campus so its easy for everyone to get caught up in "the drug scene."

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: They have these small blue tower things all over campus. If you press the button, help is supposed to come, but I've never heard of anyone actually using these. I have not been a victim of any campus crimes. I feel safe most of the time, but at night I like to go around campus with a group of friends.

2 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: At least half of the men and women I see on campus are a part of fraternities and sororities. Fraternity men are usually the bro-type, and sorority women travel in packs and are usually obnoxious and gross. To be quite honest, all of them look and sound the same. Its either you're whitewashed to the point of no return or just ratchet. Or a mix of both. A large majority of the student body goes to the gym and eats salad religiously. There are a select few people whom are great - you just have to sift through crowds to find them.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Wifi everywhere is wonderful. It makes it so that you can literally do your work anywhere on campus, even while sitting outside waiting for your class to start. Printing at a dorm computer lab or in Austin is completely free. You only have to pay to print at Joyner. Campus living internet is slow and the free antivirus software is annoying - you can't use the internet at all unless the software is running. Having a laptop, however, is DEFINITELY recommended! While there are labs, its a hassle having to go back and forth to the library.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I feel as though ECU pays too much attention to things that don't really matter. RA's don't really pay attention to whether or not anyone is being overly loud, drunk, or high. Everything is lenient, but to the point where it makes certain things hard to enjoy - especially sleeping at night.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Being a psychology major at ECU in general is okay. The psychology department is interesting, albeit a little strange. There are large lecture classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and smaller group classes on Fridays. The workload is reasonable, however reading the textbooks is more helpful than relying solely on lecture notes. Most of the work is quizzes and tests, along with SOMA credits and extra credit.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are a good amount of options and enough places to keep it intersting

4 College Junior

Nightlife: Ecu is known for it's partying and if your looking for it you will find it.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: They catch people very often but the punishments are to bad. Just writing papers about the incident

2 College Junior

Scholarships: It's a hassle but once it's done it's worth it

3 College Junior

Majors: It's pretty good but it's really what you make of it and how much you put into it

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: It's great cause everything is right there and really close no matter what you may be looking for.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: It's pretty up in the air for this topic. You can really just find the crowd with drug people or no drugs.

4 College Junior

Weather: The weather is great and is never to cold or to hot. Although if it does snow everything gets shut down.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: Housing is a problem with Greek life due to the zoning laws by the city are very strict. They are viewed as positive dud to the many interactions and events within the community

4 College Junior

Transportation: There is a huge transit transportation that runs great and is always on time

4 College Junior

Diversity: I feel as though we are very diverse but like any place in the world you can find your specific group that matches with your beliefs and morals. So that's what really determines your perscpective on it and if it is diverse. I am friends with every race and religion cause we are all people

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There a many blue lights on campus, and the safety on campus is good. However their are part of town that aren't and are concerning.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Academic wise I think ECU is above average. There haven't been many classes that I absolutely despise, and i think the workload is reasonable.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: I have my own car so i just drive myself to place off-campus. And the bus that comes to my apartment complex is pretty much always on time and it comes often.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: You can get laptops from the front desk at the library or use a desk top in the library or one of the labs. However, its just more convenient to have your own.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of restaurants to choose from. Greenville probably has every restaurant and fast food place in the world actually.

5 College Sophomore

Nightlife: You have a lot to choose from for nightlight. You can go downtown, sorority or fraternity houses, pool parties, and house parties. If you did't like going out before, you will after you go to East Carolina University.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
