Off-Campus Dining: The off-campus dining is very affordable. There are the fast food chains Mcdonalds, Taco Bell, Wendy's, and BurgerKing. There are also some local dining options that taste good.

Academics: ECU is very well known for its' medicine program. ECU also has a wide range of connections with universities in other countries, which allows them to send students to numerous countries on a couple of different continents. The professors are very helpful and truly want you to learn. Sometimes the workload can be a lot, but overall it is manageable if you manage your time correctly.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is fun because you get to know a lot of people. The best dorms are on college hill, but the west end is a lot closer to the downtown clubs.

Parking: I don't take car to campus that often, since I have parking at my apartment complex and convenient bus-service right to the center of the campus.

Nightlife: There is a good social life here, made up of a combination of on-campus events, good downtown nightlife (clubs, cafes, etc.), and housing events in large apartment complexes, plus fraternity/sorority events that one gets invited to through friendship networks. Plus there is a wide-range of cultural events sponsored by the campus student union, and the performing arts departments on campus.

Local Atmosphere: Greenville is a great place. A lot of good places to eat. There's also some shopping nearby like the Greenville Mall which has some good stores.

Weather: North Carolina weather is great. When it's sunny, it's a gorgeous day outside. It sometimes randomly rains but it's usually only for a short period of time.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: More times than not I feel very safe walking around campus. With that said, I've heard of some criminal activity going on outside of school, but they're usually just minor things. Overall, I am comfortable at ECU.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: The campus shuttles are super reliable and easy to use

2 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I had a hard time getting my finical aid. It took them almost 2 months after school began to award me. I had to borrow money from a family friend to pay for tuition and housing until I was awarded.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: The school offers shuttles from most apartment complex's and shuttles downtown and to the mall and places like walmart. If you drive downtown or down 264 at rush hour expect traffic.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The school is not very strict on underage drinking unless you're downtown.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I love my program. I'm a Criminal Justice major and my goal is to be a homicide detective. I don't have any worries about finding a job after I graduate.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
