4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Great options. Good variety of healthy things to choose from as well.

2 College Junior

Campus Dining: I am not a huge Duke dining fan. Most people eat at ABP, the Loop, or Grace's. Freshman meal plan is absurd.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Doing tons of construction now so it's very inconvenient and limited, but it should improve in two years. The food is good but expensive. Variety is unfortunately hard to come by.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: It's good, but you get sick of it. And the meal plan is very confusing at first, but you'll get the hang of it after a while.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Great options to eat on campus. We have over 30 eateries and then also a rotating food truck schedule which is awesome (crepe truck, dumpling truck, taco truck, etc). 2 of the campus restaurants are open 24 hours. There is also merchants-on-points where you can order food from local restaurants that will deliver to campus and you pay with food points! Also we got Red Mango this year which is new and delicious!

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

You’ll hear plenty of complaints about the freshman meal plan, and many of them are justified. This meal plan requires freshmen to eat breakfast and dinner at the Marketplace every weekday, as well as brunch on Saturday and Sunday. On the one hand, this is very convenient; you can eat dinner with your friends every night and not have to worry about paying for overpriced fast food. On the other hand, although the food is really not nearly as bad as everyone will tell you, it really wears on you after a while. West Campus, however, abounds with places to eat and is able to satisfy pretty much every craving. And as of 2010, an all-you-can-eat meal at the Marketplace can be converted to $12 of credit at the Great Hall.

On the whole, Duke's food options are varied, convenient, and well liked, but students will complain anyway. If you can’t find something you like on campus, you can use points to order from off campus establishments or walk across the street to Whole Foods.

Did You Know?
All on-campus restaurants and cafeterias accept food points ($1 equals one point). Duke has a system that off-campus restaurants also deliver food paid for on points. This means pizza, steaks, subs, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Italian, Mexican, and so on, are all delivered to your door without you having to dish up extra dough.
