Athletics: Basketball games are more popular among seniors and Greek life. Greek life is in huge attendance, but otherwise people mostly go for the giveaways and leave.

Academics: It is extremely demanding to be in the pharmacy program. I'm in that, I have a music minor and an on-campus job. I don't have much free time so my workload is very full. Most of my days go 8-5 without breaks. However I still find time for a professional fraternity and a sorority.

Majors: In the pharmacy program, it's moderately difficult to get in. You have to have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.2 math/science GPA and a really good interview. If you work for it, it should be no problem getting in.

Majors: I enjoy the pharmacy program, but it is very time consuming and requires a lot of outside work. Right now as a first-year, I've had a bit of a wake up call as to how much I have to study outside of class and how much professors expect from me.

Transportation: We have free bus passes for the year, but not many people utilize them because the DART is kind of difficult.

Local Atmosphere: It's perfectly fine, but not amazing. There are two or three malls within 20-30 minutes driving, which is nice. However, the same kind of thing gets old.

Weather: It gets pretty cold. Classes don't get cancelled often- but night classes get cancelled a lot.

Off-Campus Dining: Since Des Moines is a major city, there are multiple options. Zombie Burger and Spaghetti Works are college student favorites, but they can get old after a while. There are few places within walking distance of campus, but enough so that if you're that sick of dorm food you'll take it. It depends on if you have a mode of transportation for the most part. There are lots of great places out there, but without a car or knowledge of the bus routes there's not really a point.

Diversity: The campus is fairly diverse compared to how a school in Iowa could be portrayed. I have friends who come from multiple countries and backgrounds. However, some areas of study tend to have more of some backgrounds than others.

Health & Safety: The campus police are around, but not everywhere all the time. Fall 2013 there were some violence issues surrounding campus, because the campus is not in a great area of Des Moines. I feel completely safe walking around by myself during the day, but at night I would rather not. Nothing has ever happened, but it's just a weird feeling.

Off-Campus Housing: There is an apartment complex owned by Drake, so the rent is comparable to that of the dorms. Its very close to most of the dorms and to Greek street, so it's pretty popular because you can still walk to campus. Other than that it gets a little more difficult finding a place that you like that is that close.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I received a few big scholarships upon admission, which was nice. Getting the FAFSA process and private loans was more difficult, but I got the help that I needed to complete everything.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: It varies by college on what the honor codes and alcohol policies are. For the college of pharmacy, the alcohol policy is pretty strict as well as the honor code. However for the college of business, the alcohol policy is more lenient depending on the degree of the violation. If something awful happens, the student has to attend a meeting with the Dean of Students, which gets more serious.

Computers: We use the Papercut.com system for printing, and it's great for non-music majors because we get enough money on our accounts. However there aren't printers in most of the dorm buildings, so that's kind of a hassle. There are computers available everywhere, all the time for the most part, but having a laptop is very helpful and easier.

Campus Housing: I really enjoy living on campus. My roommate and I were matched up very well and we plan on rooming together in the future. The community is great, especially for first-years. Before school starts, we have Welcome Weekend for the first-years. It's a great experience and helps us to get to know people in our classes better so its not as awkward.

Nightlife: There are parties almost every weekend for those who want to go out. However, you're not chastised if you don't go out. There are also a few local bars that are pretty popular among most.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I don't know many at all who partake in drugs. 1/20 or 1/15 at most. If it's even that high (no pun intended). And those who do use are pretty discrete about it, so it's not a major issue on campus.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: Hit or miss with weekends.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Plenty of cultural organizations accepted

5 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: You have plenty of freedom. Concern for well-being.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: They are just unaware of most things

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: If you an find a house, its relatively cheap.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Nice, but expensive. Kids like to destroy things.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Some kids just don't listen.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Challenging definitely, but best preparation for your field of choice.
