Campus Strictness: Depauw has their own set of rules that students are expected to follow. For the most part, there are not too many problems. If there is a situation, it gets handled almost immediately.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: there are not many times when people will get in trouble for alcohol.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: There are definitely some rules in the dorms that are always enforced and punished if broken, but they're all kind of common sense, so its not that big of a deal.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I like the strictness here at DePauw. In the fraternities it is rather different, but around campus, if you get caught there can be severe consequences, as there should be, given that you're breaking state law.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Public Safety is present but they don't always have evidence enough to truly enforce things. Underage drinking is where they flex their might however.

DePauw is a study hard, party hard school. No doubt about it, the students like to drink. If you are 21, and in some semblance of order, you'll be fine. Drinking at DePauw is done out of celebration for work well done. The police know that and understand it, so they let it slide. If you're not 21, watch out. Most people underage can get away with drinking in the dorm as long as they're smart about it. When it comes to drinking in public or trying to sneak into the bars, one under the legal age must be careful. Due to DePauw's size, administration is able to give birthday books to bars and liquor stores that have each students name and birth date; if you give an ID that doesn't match up to the book-you can be in big trouble.

The state of Indiana also has undercover alcohol police called "Excise." They have been known to come to frats and bars in search of underage drinkers. That doesn't occur often, but it has happened, and many students have the tickets to prove it. This doesn't mean an end to all fun until you are 21, but if you choose to drink underage, do so carefully and responsibly. The administration is working hard to promote responsibility in all aspects of the DePauw community, and that includes the social scene.
