4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I loved my dorm as a freshman. It really helped me ease into the college life/atmosphere. I personally did not have any problems with my dorm, however, it was one of the farthest dorms from the actual campus.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: it is a lot better then some of the bigger schools that i have seen.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Some places are better than others.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The freshman dorms have been renovated and most upperclassmen usually live in the beautiful greek houses, but those who decide not to go greek are allowed to choose between residential halls or school owned houses/apartments.

All first-year students are required to live in dorms on campus, which is definitely helpful for adjusting to campus life and building a sense of belonging and community. DePauw has two areas where most dorms are located: South Quad and North Quad. South Quad is all freshman housing and where most of the first-year fun goes down. North Quadders are often forgotten on the freshman scene. These students are in close proximity to the Hub and have large rooms, but they are sometimes distanced from their peers. The last option, outside of the realm of both North and South Quad, is Bloomington Street-though in most students' opinions, those are the dorms to avoid.

On a whole, location aside, the dorms are pretty well maintained and inviting. Dorm bathrooms and common areas are cleaned weekly by University cleaning staff. The lack of private bathrooms is a complaint for some students, and most wish the rooms were larger, but they are very inhabitable, and most would say, cozy. Each student is given a preference sheet when accepted to DePauw that asks questions about living styles in order to pair students with roommates and housing. Most students get one of their top three choices. Your best bets for housing are Longden, Humbert, or Bishop Roberts.

Did You Know?
  • Campus lore has it that the ghost of a female resident once haunted Lucy Hall.
  • At the first snow fall of every year, students run naked around the boulder, a giant rock once thought to be a petrified turtle, which is placed outside East College.
