You can't make it through DePauw without having a professor who went to or taught at Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, or who has written a book that now sits on the shelf at Barnes & Noble. DePauw's professors love what they do and want to be here. Really, why else would extremely intelligent adults move to "middle-of-nowhere, Indiana" unless they truly loved to teach? They're smart, and they want their students to rise to their highest potential. They make their pupils work hard. So, be prepared to hold your own.

DePauw's class sizes are small, and a majority of them are discussion-based. You are expected to do your work, prepare for class, and attend class. If you don't, the professor will know. Most of your professors will know your names, where you're from, and where you live on campus. Dinner parties with professors and students are a regular occurrence at DePauw, which adds to the personal relationship in and outside of the classroom. Some professors have been known to call their students and wake them up for eight o'clock classes so they don't oversleep and miss the class. Granted, not all professors will get that personal with you, but a lot will. It keeps you on your toes, and it keeps you learning. It pays to get to know your professors. Stay and chat with them after class. They want you to succeed in life, and they will do anything to help you along the way. You can learn a lot from them besides just classroom knowledge. They have quite a bit to offer.
