3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: First year students only have two dorms available, upper class men have two plus the 8-plexus (4 dorms total, also includes an apartment building as part of campus). First year dorms do not have AC while the others do. Pretty small, either single room or with a roommate.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Each year, thousands of college freshman must choose between living on or off campus. The choice can be difficult for many, especially for those who choose to go to a college in, or close to, their own hometown. There are some misconceptions that living on campus is expensive and can cause students to not do well in school. However, there are reasons why it can be very beneficial to choose to live on campus, especially during your first few years of college.By living on campus, I can get better grades. One of the best reasons for choosing to live on campus is the fact that there is evidence to prove that those who live on campus during their first year of college get higher grades than those who don’t. In 2010, the University of Northern Iowa published statistics on their Department of Residence page showing this is true for all college students of all grade levels, not just freshmen. Their statistics also showed that students living on campus were almost twice as likely to make the Dean’s List.

Campus Housing: Sudden Changes – Recently DSU made the choice to separate Freshmen and Upperclassmen into different dorms. The board suddenly sprung this idea on students without the general body's consent. Though I do see the reason why they are doing this, it was frustrating to have to be pushed out and into other dorms.

Though all the dorms are clean, accessible and have good supervisors.

Campus Housing: Some Places Are Better Than Others – DSU has 3 dorm halls as of right now. I was in Higby and Zimmerman hall leaving Richardson and Emry Hall. Previously Emry as an all girls dorm, and Richardson was an all boys dorm. Rich was known for terrible and disgusting treatment and thus was not a very popular hall. Zimmerman however is right about the eating area (in the same building unlike the other halls) and I found them to be filled with the nicest and friendliest people. I also should note that after last year Higby and Zimmerman hall have been changed to Freshmen only halls and Richardson and Emry have been changed to mixed dorms.
