3 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Although the college is can only be reached by driving or bus, the campus is beautiful and a few minutes away from a mall, a beautiful residential area, and an Northern Asian enclave.

2 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Because it is a commuter school, there is a sense of all the students simply coming to class and quickly leaving afterwards. There is a low sense of community.

3 Recent Alumnus

Local Atmosphere: There is not much right outside campus, but there are buses that can get you to a train that will take you into Manhatten. If you have a car, you can drive to many attractions such as shopping, a variety of restaurants and activiites.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: Queens College is pretty close to good food spots and shopping centers.

5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere is great because there is alot to see and try. There is a variety of ethnic foods and ethnic stores that is different from the usual fast food. Taking a bus toward flushing will make it possible for anyone to take a train and go to Manhattan and enjoy the museums and other entertainments.

Queens College, located in Flushing, N.Y., is repeatedly noted as a very diverse campus with a great student life activity center. In addition to the general amenities a regular college has, the campus is very pretty, with grassy areas, a fountain, and places to chill and get a fantastic view of the city.

It takes between 20 minutes and an hour to get from campus into Manhattan (depending on whether students use a car or public transportation), and students find this to be the most exciting aspect of New York. From Broadway to the ballet to the nightlife in the city, there are endless things to do. NYC is exciting and culturally enriching. There is an ethnic community near campus, and the borough of Queens is known to be the most diverse area in the United States, with various backgrounds, ethnicities, races, religions, and ages—which makes living in Queens a unique experience. Students also note that people and communities outside of the Queens College campus are very warm and open, and often differ positively in personality from those living in the busier, more stressful areas of New York City.
