Classes for online courses are taught through a system called Blackboard. Blackboard is a software that simulates the original classroom where all discussions, homework assigments, and class activities are conducted. There are two types of online courses. Hybrid courses are classes where one-third to three-quarters of coursework is conducted online and the rest is in a classroom or lab. Asynchronous courses are classes where 75 percent or more of the traditional coursework is conducted online. It is strongly recommended that students have access to the Internet at home, or it will be very difficult to take an online course.
A 2.0 GPA or higher for continuing students is required for online classes. Students who are new to the college are strongly urged to consult an adviser prior to enrolling in a distance learning class. A CUNY portal account and an active BCC email account are required to register.
