Cornell’s campus is easily walkable, with a trip from one end to the other taking less than 10 minutes. This makes campus shuttles completely unnecessary; it would actually take longer to wait for a shuttle and ride to the other side of campus. Public transportation is also non-existent in Mount Vernon. As a town of about 3,000 residents, it’s simply superfluous. Transportation around town is primarily accomplished by walking, riding a bike, or driving. Most students come to campus with a vehicle, and those who don’t have a friend who does.
Shuttles are available to the Eastern Iowa Airport, located just 20 minutes away in Cedar Rapids. It serves four airlines, and you can get to most major cities and find connecting flights from there. Cheaper air fare can be found out of the Quad City International Airport in Moline, Illinois, about an hour southeast of Cornell.
