Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Ask teachers who know you best to write letters of recommendation.
  • Be yourself.
  • Create a good relationship with your admissions counselor.
  • Showcase your diverse interests.
  • Visit the campus.
  • Write an interesting and unique essay.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Mount Vernon is the quintessential small town. There's no public transportation, and most mainstream amenities are at least a 20-minute drive away.
  • One Course At A Time is still a lot of work. You could end up reading five books and writing several papers in just one block.
  • The food in the dining hall is not five-star restaurant cuisine.
  • You are automatically put on the 20 meal/week plan, but you can change it the first two weeks of each semester.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Check out www.cornellcollege.edu/admissions/visit-cornell/index.shtml or call (800) 747-1112 to register for a preview day or schedule an individual visit. Interview appointments are available at specific times between 8:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. weekdays, when classes are in session. Appointments for June to August are available weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every hour, on the hour.
Campus Tours
Campus tours are available weekdays when classes are in session at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Overnight Visits
An overnight stay with a Cornell student in a residence hall is available to high school seniors only. These stays are available most Sundays through Thursdays, with a 10-day advance notice.
Did You Know?
Off-campus admissions interviews and receptions are hosted across the United States for those unable to visit Cornell's campus in person. Interviews are one-on-one sessions with an admissions representative, and the receptions allow prospective students to mingle with Cornell admissions representatives, current students, faculty, and alumni. To find an off-campus admissions event near you, visit www.cornellcollege.edu/admissions/visit-cornell/off-campus-events.shtml.
