Spartanburg is a really solid city for off-campus dining, and students are generally satisfied with the options available to them. There are two restaurants, Converse Deli and Mellow Mushroom, that are within easy walking distance from the school. There is also a great deal of variety in the offerings: Southern meat, fast food, burgers and fries, Mexican, Indian, Thai, Chinese, and more. Since there are so many restaurants in Spartanburg, it is very easy to find variety and satisfaction in your choices while still eating inexpensively.
However, there are disadvantages to eating out in Spartanburg. It is truly difficult to find vegan and vegetarian dishes in the area. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, you may want to forgo eating out altogether. It is also difficult to find any place that is open late at night. The only options for eating after 10 p.m. are Cook Out and Papa’s Breakfast Nook. Also, Papa’s Breakfast Nook and Wade’s only take cash, so find out which ones those are and be prepared when you go. Other than the serious lack of options for vegan and vegetarian dinners, the difficulty of finding places to eat later at night, and the occasional cash-only restaurant, dining off campus in Spartanburg is not a problem.
