4 College Freshman

Facilities: Some of the buildings are really up to date but other are like a throw back.

5 College Junior

Facilities: I have been in love with Concordia since I first set foot on campus. It's met my personal needs as a student- some may find a better fit, but not me.

4 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: Concordia is a beautiful place to go to school. The atmosphere is clean and aesthetically pleasing.

5 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: Concordia is a really easy place to connect with people, especially as a freshman. Because of the small campus, you frequently see the same people and get to know them.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: My major is something that I've only seen at Concordia- Communication Studies Theatre Arts. It's kind of a half and half build your own major and it's perfect for me.
There's also a Quidditch team and we have a foam weapon fighting club. Also, your PED credit can be Stage Combat. With swords. Every other day for half a semester. It's great.

There are grounds crews devoted to making the campus something to marvel at, and they work daily to achieve that goal. Whether it’s mowing lawns and trimming bushes in the warm seasons or shoveling sidewalks and removing ice patches in the winter, they are all important facets of what makes Concordia such a great campus. It takes a lot of beauty to convince students to spend four or more years in northern Minnesota. The facilities at Concordia are acceptable and satisfactory for most students, but most are not the best of the best.

Students have access to a decent indoor gymnasium, a weight room, and a balcony of cardio exercise equipment. These are utilized often, especially during the winter months. Unfortunately, there is no indoor turf field, so summer sports players have difficulty keeping fit or staying at an optimum performance level for a few months. The library on campus is satisfactory for the needs of college students. It has computers, study rooms, and many individual study desks. However, the building itself is rapidly aging, and it will need refurbishing, if not complete renewal, in the future. Concordia is very active in renewing buildings. A new campus center was constructed recently, and plans for new business and science buildings are progressing. There is always something for Concordia students to do, be it studying or other activities.

"Green" Initiatives
The student body has just recently become involved with encouraging the college to "go green." The school's carbon footprint was assessed in 2011, and Concordia will base its green initiatives off of that in the near future.
School Slang
DS: Dining services, the cafeteria
Traditions
  • Cornstock: Concordia's version of Woodstock. Every year the Campus Entertainment Committee gets a decent band to play a concert on campus. Performers have included Mae, OK GO, Cloud Cult, and student-led groups.
  • Thanksgiving Diner: About a week before Thanksgiving break, Dining Services hosts an unrivaled Thanksgiving dinner.
Urban Legends
  • It is said that a girl committed suicide by hanging herself out the window of Room 616 in Hoyum Hall. Don't be surprised if she visits on occasion.
  • There is a ghost of a girl who killed herself in Fjelstad hall.
  • Walking under the bell tower alone will condemn you to a solitary life. Walking under it with another person, however, will condemn you to a life with them.
Favorite Things To Do
Students generally hang out on campus. In the winter, this consists of indoor activities like watching movies and going to college events. In the fall and spring, there are more opportunities to enjoy the weather and campus grounds. Some just relax outside while others throw Frisbees.

Clubs and Organizations on Campus
One thing Concordia prides itself on is the large number of student groups on campus. There are more than 100 clubs on campus, and all of them have varying degrees of involvement. There are sports clubs that are simply for fun and exercise, there are student leadership clubs promoting student involvement in college affairs, and there are miscellaneous groups for random interests like sitting in saunas or knitting. The political and environmental groups are usually the most active and maintain the most student involvement, but it is not very difficult to start a brand new club for people with different interests.
