5 College Sophomore

Computers: Great selection of Macs and PCs. Just wish they wouldn't charge for printing as that should be included in tuition.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: I don't really use the computers on campus.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Lots of computers available in all buildings around campus. Wifi is pretty good most of the time, but sometimes doesn't always work.

4 College Junior

Computers: I'm holding back on saying it's the best for one reason. I'm an audio acoustic arts major and the labs for that major are awful. 1. Time availability is very limited and as a commuter, this required me to buy a MacBook Pro and Protools to work on projects at home. 2. Protools is ONLY loaded on audio labs. I can't use any other lab throughout the school. 3. The protools that we are offered to purchase far surpasses the version loaded in the labs so many of the features don't transfer over which make doing homework at home difficult and risky.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Every one has access to a computer there.

Columbia has computer labs designated for homework, study, and general computer use by students, staff, and faculty. These labs are not used for classes and remain open for daily student use. These labs are called “Open Labs” and include The Technology Commons/618 South Michigan, 1104 South Wabash/first floor Mezzanine, and 33 East Congress/Room 521. To be admitted into these labs, a current and valid Columbia College ID is required.

The labs consist of both Macintosh and PC computers, laser printers and scanners. If a student has issues in the labs, lab aides are on duty to help with printing and general problems. Tutors are also available to help students with general computer use, offering assistance with installed software. The labs also have GoPrint! installed, a system in which users can select printers and pay for their printing. Open Labs now accept Campus Cards as a form of payment, and the cards can be recharged with funds online. Students can no longer use cash to pay for printing. Generally, the labs are open Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–10 p.m., with weekends hours varying.
