Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Colorado State University Pueblo is in a small town, so going to this school is a different kind of University experience. Someone who is interested in having large lecture classes, seeing different people every day, or even attending big events all of the time is not going to enjoy this campus and what the University atmosphere is all about. The average class size is about 30 students, and the big lecture classes only hit about 50 people. It’s a small community; everywhere you go, you will know at least one other person. The campus size can be compared to a high school, so compared with other colleges, it’s not big at all. However, a small campus means less going on all of the time, including shows, speakers, or even weekend parties.

There are advantages to attending a smaller school, though. Closer connections with professors benefit students with their grades as well as with individualized attention during and after class. There is nothing wrong with this school if you are interested in this kind of environment. Also, with a small university, tuition is cheaper. Many students would attend the University again if they had a do-over due to the favorable factors including the small classes, more attention from professors, and lower tuition prices. However, many students would not attend this school for their graduate degrees, as the school is not as impressive compared to other schools available.

Campus Strictness: CSU-Pueblo is supposed to be a dry campus. Alcohol is prohibited in the dorms, as is marijuana and other illicit drugs. Parking permits are required, but the tickets are very cheap if you do get one. If you have a reason to dispute the ticket, such as your hanging permit fell off the mirror or you have a permit, but your forgot to switch it to the vehicle you are driving, the officers are good about listening and cancelling the ticket if you do possess a permit.

Facilities: CSU-Pueblo has done an excellent job with remodeling the library, sports complexes and fields, and building the new student rec center. However, many of their classrooms are older and a bit out-dated.

Off-Campus Housing: I live in a 4-plex unit I rented, and it's about 3 miles from the school. There are side walks between my apartment and the school, so I can bike to school.

Scholarships: Get started on it early! The more time you have to iron out everything and inquire why things weren't loaded or received the happier (financially) you will be. I have had to basically harass the staff to make sure that I get the financial aid I expect every year and still have communication problems throughout the year concerning it. Dealing with the financial aid office is never fun, but anyone will tell you to do it and be patient but make sure you get your point across and the money you were promised.

Athletics: Football. Football. Football.....and then there's the rest of the school year or something.

Football is a HUGE part on campus, everyone goes to the games, home games are free for students, and there are tons of events revolving around it.
