Crime at the College of Wooster is rare, so Security & Protective Services is usually viewed by students as the team that breaks up parties and gives out parking tickets. Security is not out to get students in trouble and is usually easy-going in most situations. For this reason, students often don't take Security seriously. Security is a visible presence on campus. Because they don't have to spend time on serious crime, Security is able to provide students with a number of helpful services. When there have been more serious problems on campus or in the surrounding area, such as reported suspicious characters, Security has been prompt with providing students information and safety instructions. Security guards are available to help students 24/7, and they encourage students to call Security to escort them if they are walking around campus late at night.
In addition to safety programs, there are also a number of health programs provided at Wooster. The Longbrake Student Wellness Center is staffed with nurses 24/7, which gives students a convenient place to go when they get sick. Students can also make appointments with doctors and counselors at the Wellness Center. Wooster Community Hospital is only five minutes down the street from campus, so if you ever need to go to the hospital, the Wellness Center can easily arrange a ride for you and send your medical records over to them. Students joke about the quality of the medical advice they receive from the Wellness Center, but deep down the students appreciate the dedication of the staff when flu season comes along!
