Academics: The courses can be challenging, but the professors are more than willing to help, if you seek them out! Make sure you go to office hours! It's also very easy to visit the learning center and find a tutor, and you'll often find you come to know upper class-men who have taken the class and can give tips if needed!

Off-Campus Dining: There are a ton of off campus dining options in Wooster, and most of them will deliver right to your dorm! This includes both chain restaurants (Chipotle, Panera, etc.) as well as local places such as Spoon Market or Broken Rocks, which offer vegan and vegetarian options!

Diversity: Wooster isn't as diverse as I thought it was going to be coming in, but it's far more diverse than any school I've ever been to! You'll make friends from all over the world, as Wooster represents 45 countries and 44 states.

Off-Campus Housing: Wooster doesn't have off-campus housing! Students live on campus for all four years.

Facilities: We have great libraries, that are open almost 24 hours a day! There are only 4 hours during the day when you can not easily get food using your meal plan on campus. Every weekend there is some kind of event going on, be it a party, TedX Event, or some sort of movie or dance program. Every dorm has a student lounge, as well as every academic building, and we have two cafe areas on campus.

Facilities: Wooster offers a ton of options to undergraduate students that you won't find any where else! None of our classes are taught by TA's, and the professors really know their students and care about them as people. You'll often see them at various student events that go on over the weekend. Every student completes an Independent Study project, which is one of the best programs in the country. You get to work one on one with a professor in your major to create a research paper that is truly a tool you can use when it comes to graduate school, and is something to be seriously proud of!

Athletics: People get really into basketball, but that's about it. Most people go to the football games and leave after the band performs at halftime.

Off-Campus Housing: Students live on campus because it is a part of the Wooster community. It is a typical to live off-campus and the selection of apartments and housing is limited. Wooster provides a nice and diverse living experience through residence halls, apartments, senior living suites, and program houses. There is no reason and certainly no advantage to living off-campus.

Off-Campus Dining: Wooster in the past few years has undergone a revival downtown, hinged on the emergence of local restaurants, local food, and a communities desire to bring it out from depression. With this being said, many affordable yet trendy little bistros, steakhouses, and cafes drive the downtown economy. Students take full advantage of this. The food is amazing here. On-campus and off.

Scholarships: While I was fortunate enough not to have to apply for financial aid, I was rewarded a Dean's Scholarship when applying to Wooster. A majority of the students on campus receive some type of financial aid package and in many cases was a deciding factor in coming to the school. Personally, I applied and was awarded merit scholarship through writing an essay on a topic provided by the school which replaced my initial Dean Scholarship. I am extremely happy with what the school gives to me and I intend to repay Wooster with my contributions to the community for all the opportunities.

Guys & Girls: The people at Wooster are wonderful. The personalities of students, faculty, and staff provide a warm environment where anyone would take the time out of their day to assist another person. Student' are down to earth at Wooster. Most student's choose to look nice to go to class but are not overly dressed. Social life is open and available to all groups of people. Concerning relationships, Wooster does follow this generation's idea of the hook-up culture, but many students engage in dating relationships as well. Personally, dating has not been a main focus of my career here. Many students focus on building longer term relationships and friendships which enhance their experience on campus.

Drug Safety: I am a non-drinker, non-smoker, non-drug user. I really cannot speak to this topic. I have never been in contact with any drugs other than alcohol which hey, there are a bunch of teenagers and young adults. There is going to be drinking but is manageable and rarely to the point of danger or over-use from my perspective.

Transportation: While Wooster is a small town in which you can reach most central places by walking 5 to 10 minutes, the school provides transportation to students at times not conflicting with classes uptown to the larger box stores. Additionally, zip cars and rental cars are available through the school for longer distance travel. Around break times, several shuttles run during different hours of the day in order to facilitate students reaching their flights at Cleveland Hopkins and Akron Canton air hubs.

Weather: It's Ohio. The falls are amazing and idyllic. The springs are rainy until around April when it begins to warm up and bloom. The winter's are gorgeous if you like snow but yes, it is pretty chilly.

Academics: I came to Wooster set in my career as an English major. Wooster however, is a liberal arts program. Regardless of my initial thought, I had to take classes across the disciplines. Classes I was intimidated by and would not have considered taking due to my lack of confidence or previous knowledge. In my first year I took economics. I now am a Business Economics major and it is truly the most rewarding decision of my academic career (and yes, I am still an English minor which compliments my major well, we write A LOT in both disciplines). The workload is challenging but manageable. Our facilities only enhance the experience here on campus.

Diversity: As a school with an extremely open door and welcoming environment, many diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and religious groups are represented on campus. Students not only are accepting and welcoming but active in learning and understanding their peers backgrounds and sharing their own. Intolerance is not accepted by students across the college population and would actively be confronted by any individual from any social group.

Parking: I don't have a car, but from what I've seen, parking isn't a big issue. If you have a car, then there will be a place to put it.

3 College Junior

Parking: There are not many places to park unfortunately. Cars are really not necessary on the campus. Security is definitely on top of their game in ticketing. Once you get a ticket, you never try to park in an invalid spot again, it's a totally preventable hassle.

Nightlife: Wooster is a quaint town. There are several options on campus of night life depending on what your style of nightlife includes. Greek life hosts a variety of campus wide open events. Downtown Wooster there are lots of tiny bars and places to eat that are high-quality and affordable. This is not a metropolitan area nor does it claim to be. The night life fun comes from people spending time with one another. A Wooster experience in many respects does not require the glitz and glam of clubs.

Academics: While the curriculum is interesting, the reason this school fosters caring, responsible, and innovative graduates are the exceptional professors at the college. Wooster is a place where your professors not only care about you as a learner, but also as a person in the community. Professors work in the classroom extends well outside of it to ensure that any student who seeks help will be provided with above and beyond their need. The curriculum at the College of Wooster comes to life through the enthusiasm each professor brings to the classroom everyday.

Overall Experience: I was not looking forward to college in general. Wooster was the only place I felt comfortable enough to even consider leaving my wonderful home. This being said, three years later I can say this was the best decision in my 21 years. I may not have realized it in my first semester or even in my first year. Your Wooster experience begins to culminate in sophomore, junior, and senior years when all the opportunities and relationships you have made with the school really connect. I overcame my fears of certain academic subjects, learned independence, and created a new home away from home. Wooster is a school of tradition which evolves with the changing world around it while still maintaining its humble foundations. It is a special community in which a diverse group of students are connected by one commonality: we all love this surreal little place in Ohio.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: It's great. I love that they're popular and encourage student involvement but don't dominate campus affairs.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Boys are here. Some are cute; some are not. Most are nice and smart. Casual dating and hooking up is most common.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: The parking is expensive and the cost is double if you want a pass for both ends of campus. You can usually find a spot by your dorm/house but a good spot is hard to find and will most likely be taken as soon as you leave. It is almost impossible to get a spot in Lowry circle but you can generally find one across the street.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: It is a little challenging to register for classes that you really want but as you go up in class year you get better picks. There is a wide variety of interesting classes and all the professors are great. They all care about you and want you to do well.

Wooster may not be perfect. But although there are aspects of the school that students wish they could change, most say that overall they couldn’t see themselves at any other college. They say the combination of its small size and involved campus community provides an atmosphere that makes them happy to call Wooster their home. Learning transcends beyond the classroom, and professors treat students as a person, not a number.

Wooster, Ohio is obviously not a glamorous destination spot, but the College of Wooster is much more than just where it is located. Instead, the memories you make and friendships you gain are what are important. And decades after graduating, alumni love to see the familiar cornfields and cows, reminding them of their college days at Wooster.
