5 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Really chill admin. in terms of this stuff, but Security are a bunch of dicks. They hire off-duty Waterville officers, who HATE Colby kids. Leads to a lovely time.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Campus security does a fair job. People will recieve citations if they are obnoxiously drunk in front of security but nothing too major. Most of the legal trouble students get in are from the local police departments that break up off campus parties

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Security can be a bit of a joke. They tend to go pretty easy on underage drinking on campus as long as you aren't obvious/a jerk about it. I think they would rather have people drink on campus than off, since then it's the police.

1 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: In real life if you are underage and drinking you get in trouble by law enforcement. If you break something, you get fined and arrested. If you're an ass you get punched. Colby doesn't teach you about real life.

Also Hillside is riot-proof. There is a reason for that.

3 College Student

Campus Strictness: Drinking and smoking are big problems here.

Colby seems to be getting stricter about drinking and partying. The administrative philosophy on partying is pretty much that students are going to drink and party, so they should make sure no one ends up in the hospital or jail. However, to avoid getting in trouble with the local police, hefty open container fines have added to the strictness of campus security. So, don’t walk around the halls with an open can of beer—you’re basically asking for trouble.

Every dorm has a Community Advisor (CA) whose primary role is to build community within each dorm. They also conduct safety rounds on the weekends to ensure no one has passed out in the bathrooms, and CAs can issue citations and call security if parties get too loud or raucous. Most people know at least one security guard fairly well, which is a good way to avoid getting a citation. Also, security only gets involved in dorm parties if the music is too loud or people are wandering the halls with beers in hand. However, most students learn how to stay out of trouble. It's pretty easy to not get in trouble here, and students with good judgment will be fine. Most agree that Colby students are pretty lucky.
