Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Be honest about what makes you unique.
  • Class rank is taken into account! Most students are in the top 5 percent.
  • Do well on ACTs or SATs.
  • Interview! Colby loves to see that an applicant has shown an interest.
  • Take as many AP courses as you can.
  • Write a really good essay on the Common App, especially because it is now the only one admissions counselors will see.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Freshmen can have cars on campus.
  • It's totally not weird to talk to random people in the first week of classes-in fact, that's how you'll make the most new and lasting friendships.
  • The airport's an hour and a half away.
  • The work will be hard but is well worth it.
  • Two things that could be potentially nerdy and aren't: pearls and chem-free living.
  • Waterville is not a typical college town, and it's not too close to campus.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Group information sessions are held year-round on weekdays at 10:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. No appointments are necessary for weekday information sessions. From early September to mid-December, Saturday information sessions are held at 9:15 a.m., and in April, sessions are offered on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Interviews are not required but are strongly recommended. Off-campus interviews are available during the spring and fall. Call (207) 859-4800 or (800) 723-3032 to schedule appointments.
Campus Tours
Student-led campus tours run year-round on weekdays at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. They are available on Saturdays at 11 a.m. in April and from June to August. From September to December, Saturday tours are available at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and 12 p.m. No appointments are needed for tours, but it's a good idea to call ahead and confirm times. The number is (207) 859-4800.
Overnight Visits
Colby hosts an overnight visit program in April for students already admitted. Interested students stay in a dorm and eat in the dining halls. Anyone interested in this program should call (800) 723-3032.
