Off-Campus Dining: Most of the restaurants are chains such as McDonald's, Cookout, and Taco Bell so the prices are the usual amounts. The restaurants I just listed, plus a Dominos and Chinese restaurant are located about 2 blocks from campus so those are convenient. If you want fancier cuisine like Applebee's, iHop, or Cracker Barrel you'll have to drive about 5 minutes from campus. To my knowledge, none of the restaurants in town offer student discounts. The variety sucks but the most delicious restaurant is Mr. Hibachi, a Japanese restaurant.

Facilities: Student life on Claflin's campus is subpar. Athletic centers are really only available to be used by student athletes. A basketball court is available outside of High Rise, a male dormitory. The student center is barely existent. It's a small two-story building with a Pizza Hut Express, Jazzman's Cafe (similar to Starbucks), and a game room. Department of Residential Life and a multipurpose room are also located in the Student Center. The library is actually alright. The books are largely outdated and there doesn't seem to be a hope of updating. The computers in the library were updated to flat screens last spring which is pretty cool. The temperature varies and sometimes it's too hot in the library to student adequately. There's a lot of green space on campus. Most of it is located in the center of campus. There are multiple meltdowns (school-allowed parties) provided during the school in the plaza located outside of the cafeteria. Also, Calabash is a annual arts festival that is awesome. There are really no student hangouts on our campus other than within each others' dormitories.

Overall Experience: I love Claflin University. The professors are really good and I do not mind the rules that we do have. I definitely feel safe and the size of the campus is not a burden. I would start all over again if I had to. We do not have to schedule appointments to meet with our advisors due to our small population; we just walk in whenever we would like to. We do not have a wide variety of courses but we have the courses that you need to excel in your field. Most of our classes are about 20-40 students. If you're a science major, like me, your class sizes will be larger than other majors.

Overall Experience: More than 70% of students on our campus have internships/jobs over the summer. Career prospects are quite promising. Students have accepted jobs from Dell, Google, Michelin, Bank of America, and various government positions. Other students continue their education in professional schools. On average, more students are accepted into law schools and business schools than to medical schools. Regardless, attending Claflin University puts you in a good position when furthering your education afterwards. Claflin is one the top HBCUs in the nation and we are proud of it.

Campus Strictness: There are not a lot of security guards or police officers on campus. Therefore, we do not have to worry about too many strict rules. Most rules regarding visitation are delegated by the security guard in the hut at the front of campus and the residential managers.

Athletics: Generally, not many people attend the sporting events. Freshmen usually attend because it's exciting for them and it's part of there initial college experience. We do not have a football team. The only time a lot of people attend a basketball game is during homecoming week. Even so, it's not because upperclassmen decided to attend the event but because many alumni come back to attend the game. Overall, sports are not superb by any means on our campus.

Greek Life: I think that Greek Life is very amazing. I would like to be a part of Greek Life one day. Greek Life do a lot for the community.

1 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: it is very boring not a lot of things to do in the city

2 College Junior

Scholarships: Recieving finacial aid is a hassel. I go to a very expensive school so tutition goes up every year making hard to recieve the finacial aid leaving others without any resources for school.

Off-Campus Housing: I live on campus but i have heard bad things about off campus living espically with the parking

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: The class size is small. You really get that one on one experience with professors. It's great because you learn a lot more and get a lot of attention when needed.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Claflin is ranked as one of the top 10 HBCU'S there is. An education and a degree means a lot from Claflin. A lot of careers are looking for students when they graduate. Also we have an excellent career counselor who help us find great career opportunities.

Campus Dining: Claflin dining is good, but they should consider operating more hours than whats provided. Also they should add other resturants on campus, because all we have is pizza hut and jazzman's cafe. After awhile it gets old eating the samething all the time.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life are one of the biggest things at Claflin. Non-Greeks enjoy watching the Greeks stroll and everything else they do.

3 College Junior

Facilities: It's okay. After a certain time there is nowhere to hang out at, unless you have friends off campus.

4 College Junior

Academics: In the school of Business there is so much opportunity provided for the majors in this cluster. The teachers are excellent and help out students in anyway they can. Also there are a lot of programs to join and apply to for internships and jobs.

4 College Junior

Academics: Academics is the best thing at Claflin. They provide you with a great education, volunteer service, global experience, internships, and job opportunities. You have to take advantage of all the opportunities out there, other wise you will lose out.

Local Atmosphere: Again Orangeburg needs to provide a better atmosphere for it's college students.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There's not much option of food around town. After awhile it's just the same stuff over and over again.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: It's great living on campus, but it's visitation rules are too strict!

3 College Junior

Nightlife: Orangeburg should provide more things for college students to do.

Claflin University sets itself apart by being a small, family-oriented campus—and you will notice this from the moment you first arrive here. Everyone, from the administrators to the maintenance staff, is always warm, welcoming, friendly, and ready to assist the students. It is very hard to make enemies at this school because everyone respects everyone else and where they came from. The students and faculty come from different backgrounds, yet that does not lead to segregation.

The people here possess genuine Southern hospitality, a trait that never gets old around campus, and everyone takes pride in the rich history they have become a part of at Claflin. Everyone is always focused on their academic success and achieving the desired “Claflin Confidence.” The school constantly makes a personal effort to help students achieve all their goals by helping in whatever way they can. When you graduate from Claflin, you will not only leave with your diploma, but you will also leave with a wealth of great friendships and family bonds that you have made with others at the University. It truly is a rewarding experience.
