Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Community service
  • Good grades and test scores
  • Great college essay (written by you, not your parents)
  • Hobbies! (well-rounded student)
  • Leadership experience
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Bring: a raincoat, rain boots, a warm coat, a fan (if your residence hall does not have AC), and quarters for laundry. You do not need: bed risers (lofting kits available and all beds are adjustable), two or more of everything (discuss with your roommate beforehand who brings what).
  • Do a summer launch program the summer before coming to Champlain as a first-year. They include the Ultimate Transition Experience, Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP), Roller Coaster Extravaganza, Bike Vermont, and Montreal Service (change from year to year).
  • If you don't know exactly what major you want to be in, or the major you want to be in is extremely competitive (gaming majors usually are), apply to Champlain as undecided in the division your intended major is in. This allows you to easily declare your major after already taking classes in your field of study, and maybe some required electives you may be interested in within your division.
  • If you live on campus, you must have the all-inclusive, really pricey meal plan.
  • On-campus housing for upperclassmen is extremely limited (will get better with the new construction). They still expect you to live off campus by senior year, but it is not required. Other things about housing: Get a room away from the stairs to avoid the noise of people bolting down them.
  • You can have a car, but the majority of things needed is within walking distance.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Call (800) 570-5858 or email admission@champlain.edu.
Portfolio reviews will happen during fall open houses or on various other days on campus. A student must be registered for a portfolio review.
Campus Tours
Campus tour events include fall open houses each year.
Weekday visits can be on Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., or Wednesdays at 1 p.m. These visits include an information session with a Champlain admissions counselor and a tour with a student ambassador. Shadowing a student ambassador is only available for seniors beginning mid-September. It is not available for intended radiography majors.
Weekend sessions are prescheduled (refer to the Champlain website for dates). Saturday sessions include an information session and a tour, or sometimes just a tour.
Overnight Visits
Unless you have a friend at Champlain, overnight visits are not organized by Champlain admissions. High school seniors can shadow a student ambassador in a class, though, starting mid-September.
