Advice on Finding a Job/Internship
  • The Centenary Career Center offers listings of full-time and part-time jobs. The career counselors are always available and very helpful. Students have worked at the nearby television station and other local businesses. Internships are really easy to find if you check the listings and ask teachers in your field. Most of them know the community well and can find you great local opportunities. Sometimes they might even find you a paid position in your field. Students often participate in internships for class credit. It's a great way to get more hours, and it looks incredibly impressive on your résumé.
  • Use your adviser as much as possible. By your second year, you should have an adviser in your field, and they will know all about the local internships. The College encourages students to get internship credit, so start looking early. Also, keep up with campus events. Internship opportunities are often available on campus, though students rarely pay close attention. Ask your professors for advice and help; they more than likely have heard of several internship positions that need to be filled.
