Public Safety officers at Canisius are lurking around every corner—in a good way. They consistently patrol campus 24/7. They are never in the way—just there. It is comforting to walk back to the giant parking garage at night and see a Public Safety vehicle sitting right in the middle of it, with an officer inside. However, streets just outside campus are prone to crimes such as petty theft. Public Safety sends notices around of any crimes in the area, and these crimes are published weekly in the school newspaper, "The Griffin." The Student Health Center, in the tunnel level of Frisch Hall, gives counseling and doctor/nurse appointments free of charge—other than the exam and immunization checkup required before the start of each school year, which requires payment.

During the academic year (August through May), the health center is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (though, the clinic is closed each day from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch). If there is an emergency when the clinic is not open, you can call Public Safety at extension 711, and it will arrange transport for you to Sisters of Charity Hospital, which is located a stone's throw away from Canisius, or another local hospital if you so choose.
