5 College Senior

Academics: Very cool to be an IR guy because we have an intimate group.

5 College Senior

Academics: Some of the best academics around. Excellent and highly reputable engineering, philosophy, political science, and history departments. Nursing program is top notch as well. Growing speech pathology program. Very difficult with high standards but that's how you get a good reputation. We work hard, we play harder

4 College Freshman

Academics: The classes are academically challenging, the professors are engaged and caring, the workload is decent. There are a lot of core requirements, but that is expected of a liberal arts college. The registration process is pretty stressful, but help is widely available.

Popular study areas would be the reading rooms, individual rooms, Johnny's, and the library. I tend to go to the library because it is convenient and has a serene atmosphere.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Right now I am a declared French major but I am very interested in the education track as well. The department though for my major are led by some of the greatest, nicest and caring professors I have ever came in contact with. They are very thoughtful and insightful on students, able to teach the French language with various learning types in the classroom. I for one came from high school with three years of French and I learned more within my first year of French at Calvin than in my 3 years in high school.

There are also ways to get involved in French activities. Sometimes there are holiday parties hosted by the French department. Every week there is pause cafe, which is conversation for a 1/2 hour all in French, and every other week there is a French chapel service.

The two departments, Education and French, have a language program together in which you can be an Education major with a focus on teaching French. This is what I hope to be doing.

The curriculum is great, I am always learning new things in French grammar, and the work load is definitely bearable.
