Computers: Not enough computer labs on campus. It is often very hard to find an open computer on campus. Printing costs are low and there are several printers around campus. The wireless network often times out and disconnects on mobile devices but on laptops usually remains connected. Recommend having your own laptop.

Health & Safety: Our student health center is great. The only complaint is that it can often times be a long wait to see a doctor. I've had to wait 2 weeks for an open appointment slot.

Nightlife: Partying isn't a huge aspect of campus life but it does happen. Parties are mostly heard about from fraternity/sorority members or friends who like to party. Sac State has a program called Safe Rides which gives free rides to students who are within a 10 mile radius of the school. This improves the transportation issue of nightlife immensely and reduces drunk driving rates.

Transportation: Free public transportation and free shuttle service is included with being a student at Sac State. Multiple city buses drop off on campus and one of the shuttle lines even drops off at the nearest lightrail station.

Scholarships: I did not receive my financial aid package until 4 months into the fall semester. There was a mix-up with paper work and although I spoke to the financial aid counselors multiple times, the issue wasn't resolved until much later. My advice is to make an appointment for a private session with a counselor. Have them explain everything to you and tell you what you need to do, especially if you are a first generation college student like myself.

Greek Life: In my opinion, greek life is taken a bit too seriously at Sac State. I've had friends that have dedicated hours upon hours of their time just trying to get into a fraternity/sorority. And sometimes they invest all of that time only to be denied in the end.

Drug Safety: Sac State isn't a party scene type of school. If you like to go out to parties, drink, or do drugs, there are ways to do it but it requires knowing specific people who are into those things. For the most part partying and alcohol/drugs aren't the main priority for the students.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The policies at the dorms are fairly strict. Seems to keep the students in line for the most part.

4 College Senior

Diversity: This school is very diverse. It has many people of different backgrounds and this school is very accepting.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many fast food chains on campus. The cost is average and the food taste similar if you were to go to that same exact chain off campus. It is a little more expensive on campus.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: The Greek life here is small. Not many people are involved.

4 College Senior

Computers: What I like most is the speed of the network. It is way faster than my own school.

4 College Senior

Transportation: Many students take the bus. It is pretty accessible. Many students also drive. It is almost like a commuter school.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: The off-campus housing can be very expensive, almost just as expensive as on-campus housing.

Campus Strictness: There are law enforcements that make their usual rounds. It doesn't affect social lives much. I have seen students get stressed over the parking.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I don't qualify, but for those who do I think they are getting a decent amount.

Computers: I use my computer in the dorms mostly, but the internet cut in and out A LOT. My Skype always cuts out, the internet is always searching for connection, and every time I log onto my laptop I have to re-connect to the internet.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not that much, some different places than from back at home but mostly chain restaurants. My favorite place is Jack's Urban Eats.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: My RA got kicked out for half a semester, so the people in my hall didn't follow the rules much. Sometimes the bathrooms are gross (top ramen in the sinks, hair in the showers) and i feel claustrophobic in my dorm room from time to time. But, its the college experience and I'm happy I lived there for a year.

Academics: It's stressful not know if I will get into the nursing program, but from what I've heard it is one of the best and I should strive to be accepted. Once you are in the program it is rigorous and time consuming, but worth it in the end.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They are really anal about parking permits and stopping at the stop signs, but if you follow the rules they are respectful.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: There are always events and games happening at the Well, and also athletic activities that many students attend for fun. We don't have the biggest football field, newest basketball court, or biggest fan support, but we still make do and have fun at events.

4 College Student

Majors: I really like my major it may be a hard subject but my professors are always there to help me. I am a Biology major and am trying to get into the veterinarian field. My biggest concern is not finding a job right after i graduate from college.

3 College Student

Majors: Getting into my upper division classes was the hardest part for me because they would always get impacted, since my major has been an impacted major. The most important criteria is making sure that this is what you want to do because it does take a lot of motivation and time.

4 College Student

Health & Safety: I have had night classes and my concern was walking to my apartment at night but there where always cops walking around the campus and the cop cars around the parking structure which made it safe for me to walk.

Most students appreciate Sac State because it's pleasant, but they often wish it had more school spirit. The ones who are satisfied with it usually haven't been to other four-year universities, so they don't have anything major to compare it to from first-hand experience. Those who wish for more excitement usually mention wilder Bay Area campuses. A majority of people that attend Sac State just want a degree so they can get out. They know not to expect the typical college experience that makes for legendary times and awesome memories. Too many of them commute. If Sac State were more of an on-campus school, there would be more student satisfaction socially. If you decide to study here and want campus community, seek clubs or other social organizations as soon as possible. If you're laid-back and don't mind coming to a school where everyone just comes to get a grade and a job, make yourself at home.

Many students would be blown away if they knew how hard their education could be, but a lot of them are fine with Sac State's current academic level. Most assignments are easy, and it's surprising what students worry about. There's a writing test, the Writing Proficiency Exam, that all students must take before advancing to higher-level classes, and it has a fearsome reputation because many of them make a big deal about it. But in reality, it's nothing more than an in-class essay where you offer your opinion on a certain topic—that's all. Although most Sac State students don't think their education is lacking, when they voice concerns, it's obvious that something's missing. If they were used to consistently working harder, that test would be a breeze.
