Most students are able to avoid any direct altercations with the police and other authority figures, and those who do have run-ins know they probably deserve whatever they get. Be careful in the dorms: Your neighbors are often the ones to rat you out when it comes to loud noises and parties. Just keep the music low and the invitation list small.

CSUN is usually quick to act during emergency situations, though these are few and far between. They also act fast when it comes to parking. There is a very strong police presence in this realm, as you will see campus safety officers constantly patrolling campus. Drugs and alcohol are other offenses that campus police are strict with, so if you're going to drink and smoke, try to be discreet.

Facts & Statistics

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...
  • Being too loud after quiet hours
  • Getting a ticket for not having your parking permit visible
  • Having a party (only if you're too loud)
  • Having a pet in your dorm
  • Making out (or doing other stuff) in a car
  • Parking in the red zone when you just run up to your dorm for a minute
  • Smoking weed in your dorm
Visitation Policies
Students must register non-student, overnight guests. The host can go to the housing website to do this: Students must register their guests by 3 p.m. on the business day before the guest is supposed to arrive. In a 30-day period, an overnight guest is only allowed to stay five nights and must be approved for multiple consecutive days.
