College Junior

Athletics: I don't participate in athletic activities.

College Junior

Greek Life: I don't know anything about Greek life.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: I don't really participate in nightlife.

3 College Junior

Transportation: There are on campus shuttles but public transportation is difficult.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Not very familiar with strictness as I don't live on campus.

3 College Junior

Computers: Don't know much about computer availability as I use my own laptop only.

4 College Junior

Weather: Sometimes foggy and grey but otherwise good.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: I don't know much about the drug safety issues.

1 College Junior

Scholarships: The school does not provide financial aid to students in the Scientific Illustration Program I am enrolled in.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Average cost. Some buildings are very old.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: From what i've heard, they are not very respected here.

3 College Freshman

Computers: The Internet is good at time, but at other times is awful.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It is great because we are located by the beach, which makes it a good temperature.

4 College Junior

Computers: The school's library has relatively new computers with all the necessary software for every major on campus, including the newest version of Photoshop. The internet connection is down at least twice a month for a few hours, however, and can be relatively slow.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I do not live on campus, but I have heard that the housing process is extremely disorganized and inconvenient to students who have been patiently waiting for their lottery ticket to be called only to be notified that they "missed" their window; the buildings are renovated army barracks and definitely show their age.

College Junior

Athletics: I am not an active participant in the athletic community at my school, so my knowledge is extremely limited

3 College Junior

Scholarships: The school is fairly communicative with the student on what types of financial aid the student is eligible for, but the office can be difficult to get a hold of and they will not inform you of why you receive certain types of loans and why you do not receive others.

3 College Junior

Transportation: Transportation is free for all CSUMB students, although I do not use the services because I have my own car. I have however heard mixed reviews about the shuttle system.

1 College Student

Campus Housing: I hate how dirty and old the dorms are.We can tell that they are refurbished army buildings and hey haven't been re done since the school opened.

1 College Student

Scholarships: I am very unhappy with the way the financial aid at this school is set up i think that they should factor in all aspects of a students home life

5 College Student

Majors: I love that the school has my Computer Science Major. Monterey Bay is still a fairly young school so I can understand why they don't have every major but they are working towards building a better university.

3 College Student

Majors: The way they set the school is up is you meet most of your former classmates in FYS(First Year Seminar) classes so you get familiar with everyone and it helps when you take your major courses.

3 College Student

Health & Safety: I think that they should re do our restrooms a lot of us have mold growing considering that these rooms are very old.

3 College Student

Drug Safety: My school has a zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol but as most college students they get it anyway.

3 College Student

Campus Strictness: The RAs on duty come around three times a night and they listen to see if anyone is doing anything that they shouldn't be and if they suspect that someone is doing something then they will knock to see whats going on.

Opened in 1994, CSUMB has since been a work in progress. Although the University has made great strides within the past 16 years, much of the school appears to not be fully developed and is still in the process of improvement. Most students’ experiences at CSUMB appear to be both love and hate. On one side, students are happy to attend a small institution that is located in the beautiful Monterey Bay and is among the cheaper CSU campuses. Unfortunately, issues such a poor athletics and the lack of exciting campus activities are enough to give students an overall negative perspective toward the school. It is no secret, however, that CSUMB has a rather large transfer/drop out rate and many students would choose to transfer if given the chance. Despite this, many feel that they are being properly prepared for the future and look forward to their upcoming years at CSUMB. Like many things, it seems that the university will only get better with age.
