Cal Poly's safety can be seen as both a blessing and a curse. The biggest crime on campus is bike seat theft, and violent crime is not an epidemic on campus. Since our campus is so safe, the police have time to make sure every rule is followed. This means that students riding skateboards through campus or running stop signs are likely to be met with a citation. Overall, though, most students are thankful that there is a police force that will be there immediately if 911 is called and will help maintain the safe community Poly students have grown to appreciate.
Parking tickets are very common. Not having a permit and parking at the end of a full row or in a spot not allocated for a specific permit (resident parking in a general lot, for example) are valid causes for the receipt of a parking ticket. Ticket penalties are not exorbitantly priced, though, and serve as more of a slap on the wrist.
